Spartan Chassis Recalls 799 Fire Rescue Vehicles
November 02, 2011
WASHINGTON – Spartan Chassis is recalling a number of 2007 to 2012 model-year fire rescue vehicles, according to the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHTSA). The recall is for models equipped with an electronic stability control (ESC) package manufactured between April 12, 2007 and Sept. 30, 2011. NHTSA said Spartan is recalling 799 vehicles.NHTSA said the ESC module can cause the ESC system to activate unnecessarily when the vehicle is driven in a certain way or in certain road conditions. This can cause the module to miscalculate the slip angle, thereby sensing over steering and applying the front axle outer wheel service brake, increasing the risk of a crash.
The vehicles in the recall include the following:
- Spartan Gladiator, 2007-2012
- Spartan Metrostar, 2008-2012
- Spartan Force, 2012
- Spartan Diamond, 2008
- Spartan Furion 2008, 2009, 2011
- Spartan Furion R/T, 2010
The recall is set to begin on or around Nov. 30, 2011. NHTSA said owners can contact Spartan at 1-800-543-5008, option 5.
