As a followup to a previous post HERE, Martin Nowak has submitted images now from Bridgeview Station 1 to allow readers an insight into the rest of the department’s apparatus.The Bridgeview Fire Department in Mabas Division 21 has not yet been added to the site.

New Network TV Show Chicago Fire – update

One of our readers found a link to an NBC article on the filming of Chicago Fire that includes a gallery of images from the Columbus Avenue scene this week. Looking at the photos will answer several reader questions that have been posed about the apparatus being used as Squad 3 with an unconventional … unique color scheme. Also there is a large blue stripe that has been added to the ambulance.

Tim Olk submitted images of the three suppression rigs being used for the show. Squad 3 is obviously the spare haz mat (G-492, 1989 Spartan Gladiator/Saulsbury) but the shop numbers have been removed from the engine (1995 Spartan/Luverne) and the truck 1995 or 1996 Seagrave). The Ambulance carries shop #C055 which is a 200 Ford/MedicMaster (American LaFrance) that had been assigned to Ambulance 47.

Crete Township FPD has been added to the site

The Crete Township Fire Protection in MABAS Division 27has three stations. They have a variety of engines made my Pierce, E-ONE, Luverne, and Alexis. The ambulances are from Medtec and they also have three tankers (tenders), the newest of which was completed in 2011 by Alexis on a Freightliner M2 chassis.

In 1995, Crete Township was one of several south suburban fire departments to order an engine from Luverne on an HME 1871 chassis. Two of these had the largest extended and raised cabs that were offered; one went to Alsip and the other is still on the roster for Crete Township with a fully enclosed pump operator panel.

The newest unit in the Crete Township fleet is a 3,000-gallon tender built by Alexis on a Freightliner chassis. There is a graphic on the porta-tank cover which illustrates a steamer that was refurbished by Gene Morris of Alexis Fire Equipment.

Box Alarm in Burnham 4-30

The Burnham Fire Department received calls yesterday reporting a fire in a 3-story apartment building at 14000 S. Torrence Avenue. First arriving companies found heavy smoke on the first floor and upgraded the alarm to a MABAS Box Alarm. Mutual aid companies from several neighboring departments responded including Calumet City, Dolton, South Holland, and Munster Indiana. The fire was knocked down in fairly short order and no injuries were reported.

Tim Olk took in the fire, and though he arrived after the fire was put out, he submitted several images of the scene and the apparatus that responded.
