House fire in Highland Park, 2-12-15

Highland Park firefighters were called to 24245 St. Johns Avenue this afternoon by workers reporting fire in the insulation between the 2nd floor and the attic. The large, unoccupied two-story house was being remodeled at the time. First arriving companies encountered heavy smoke and upgrade the alarm to the Code 4 for the working fire. An aggressive stop contained the fire to the area of origin.

Mutual aid companies were Highwood Truck 37, Lake Forest Engine 412, Deerfield-Bannockburn Truck 20, and Northfields Truck 29. Highland Park units on the scene were both ambulances, all three engines, the chief and battalion chief.

Chicago Still & Box, 2-3-2015

This from Dennis McGuire, Jr:

Chicago Still & Box 8240 S. Justine Ave 2-3-2015
Around 1AM Engine 73 pulled up on a 2-sty, 50×75 Ord. with heavy fire in the rear enclosed porches. Due to the weather (19 inches of snow the day before and 8 degrees with a wind chill of zero) the officer asked for the Box. I arrived shortly after the fire was knocked and the companies were doing overhaul.

Working fire in Gary, IN 1-31-15

This from Eric Haak:

The Gary, Indiana Fire Department fought 6 fires within 12 hours on Saturday, January 31st.  This was the last of those fires which was dispatched just before noon and was at 24th and Colfax, just 2 blocks north of Station 13.  There was also a fire at 36th and Colfax in the early morning hours.
Like the other 5 buildings, this structure was vacant.  It was a 1-story, 35×50 frame with an attached garage.  It appeared that the main body of the fire was in the rear section that looked like an addition to the original home.  An initial interior attack was made which knocked down a good portion of the fire.  Companies then backed out and the fire in the rear addition was put out from the exterior.  Also pictured are Engines 8 and 13 as well as Truck 2.

Firefighters deal with the cold weather

This from Eric Haak:

I took in three fires on Wednesday and got to all three of them late.  I decided to send in a few images from each in honor of everyone who has to work outside in these conditions.  The first image is from the still & box on the 1500 block of Kostner.  It must have really been going as the entire face of the building was covered with soot.  A dog was rescued from this fire as seen in the third image.
The third and fourth images were taken on the 9100 block of South Crandon which was another still & box.
The last image is of Engine 38 with their second fire of the day on the 1400 block of South Ridgeway.

Libertyville 2nd Alarm fire, 3-15-14

This from Larry Shapiro:

The Libertyville Fire Department received a call around 10:15PM on Saturday reporting a barn fire on Bradley Road in Mettawa. Units were dispatched from Libertyville, Lake Forest, and Knollwood. Upon arrival they found fire in one building on the property of a large stable at 855 N. Bradley Road.  Libertyville Quint 462, Engine 463, Engine 461, and the Libertyville tender entered the north driveway and the Lake Forest engine came in the south driveway. Lake Forest had a hydrant at the street and Knollwood tapped another hydrant near the north driveway to supply the Libertyville companies. Prior to the establishment of secure water sources, the Libertyville tender and the two engines nursed the quint.

Within minutes the alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional units including water tenders. They made a good stop and did not put the mutual aid water tenders to work.  A second alarm was requested for manpower to assist the companies with extensive overhaul.

2nd Alarm commercial fire in Batavia, 3-5-14 (more)

This from John Tulipano from the 2nd Alarm fire in Batavia on Wednesday night:

Was fortunate to be in the car picking up from another fire in St Charles when Tri-Com toned out for a possible fire at 1st and Mallory in Batavia. Police reported flames from the 2nd floor window. The Batavia chief arrived and reported a 300X75, foundry-type bldg, well involved. He instructed his first engine to hit it with the deck gun and wanted to know who his first two trucks were.  He immediately  pulled a 2nd alarm.
