Retired Fire Chief Larry Nardoni, who served nearly four decades in the fire service, has passed away. Chief Nardoni was a respected leader and mentor in the South Chicago Heights and Steger Fire Departments.
According to a statement from the fire departments, Nardoni began his career with the Steger Fire Department in 1978, rising to captain before joining the South Chicago Heights Fire Department in 1996. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1999, assistant chief in 2000, and fire chief in 2009, retiring in 2017.
Services for Chief Nardoni will include a visitation on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Steger Memorial Chapel. A fireman’s walk-through is scheduled for 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, followed by a procession to Skyline Memorial Park in Monee.
