Broadview firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in a three-story residential building overnight and arrived to find residents on the top floor that were ready to drop a child into a blanket being held by neighbors.

Firefighters rescued several children from the top floor of a three-story building during an extra-alarm fire early this morning in west suburban Broadview, authorities said.

Fire crews from four suburbs responded to the 2-11 alarm fire in the 2100 block of South 16th Avenue, authorities said.
