A Chicago firefighter was not injured after falling through a floor battling a blaze Wednesday in Englewood on the South Side after crews were called to the scene of a fire about 9:35 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Green Street. He was quickly removed from the building by other firefighters and taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was listed in good condition. The fire was rapidly extinguished and no other injuries were reported.

Update on Mayday. 6 CFD members transported after flashover and Mayday all are doing well. At least one member jumped from the building. Cause of fire under investigation.

Building on 27th & Lowe is in the process of being demolished due to public safety concerns.

Actual address of fire on Lowe is 2710. Corrected from earlier reports.

UPDATE ON 2 11 MAYDAY A total of 7 firefighters were transported from this fire. Injuries include lesser degree burns, a laceration and slight orthopedic injury. (Langford)

2-11 Alarm and EMS Plan 1 for a mayday alert in Chicago, 2-19-21 (more)

Video from WGN News’ Skycam 9 captured a firefighter jumping to safety during a massive fire in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.

A mayday call was issued after an extra-alarm fire started around 7 a.m. Friday at a building in the 2700 block of South Lowe. Power lines in the area were catching fire, causing a bigger problem for firefighters to control the flames.

When Skycam 9 arrived to the scene, firefighters were seen sliding down a ladder from the roof as smoke overtook the area. One firefighter, who was stranded on the roof, was captured jumping to the building next door to safety.

All firefighters are accounted for and at least six were transported to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries.

A Chicago firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries after a fire Friday in a vacant apartment building that started about 10 p.m. in the 6400-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. No other injuries were reported, and the fire was extinguished by 10:50 p.m.

A Chicago firefighter was taken to a hospital in good condition with a minor injury after battling a fire Saturday in Edgewater on the North Side. The still-and-box alarm fire was reported at a home in the 5600 block of North Winthrop Avenue was put out by 3:23 a.m.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 10-11-20

A fire that started just after 11:30 p.m. inside of a vacant 2 1/2-story home at 820 North Lawndale Avenue in Chicago destroyed that home and damaged two others in a 2-alarm fire. The vacant home collapsed during the fire. One firefighter was taken to a hospital with a minor injury and at least four people are trying to figure out where to go next as their homes are boarded up.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but a neighbor saw two men in the backyard overnight lighting a bonfire.

Update- 2-11 Alarm at 820 N Lawndale has been struck out. 4 displacements red cross and human services enroute. 1 Firefighter transported from the 2-11 Alarm for minor injury. No other injuries.

2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 3-30-20

A Chicago firefighter was injured at a 2-11 alarm fire that damaged three buildings Monday in Little Village on the Southwest Side. The blaze broke out about 2:16 a.m. at a two-flat residential building in the 2500 block of South Albany Avenue and spread to two adjacent buildings.

The firefighter was hit in the shoulder by part of a chimney and taken to a hospital in good condition with a minor injury. Ten residents were displaced .

Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 1-4-20 (more)

A Chicago firefighter was injured during a rescue of a resident from a blaze on the South Side Saturday. The firefighter was being treated at University of Chicago Medical Center and is in serious to critical condition. A witness said he appeared to be overcome by smoke while entering the home.  Firefighters on the scene indicated he should be OK.

Three people, including a woman rescued from the second floor of the home, were sent to Jackson Park hospital. Their injuries were not believed to be serious.

The fire happened on the first floor of the home in the 8700 block of South Constance Avenue in the Calumet Heights neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. Fire department officials say the firefighter was injured trying to save an elderly woman trapped on the second floor.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished about an hour, is not known at this time.

Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 8-2-19 (more)

A firefighter was seriously injured Friday evening when the roof fell as a fire raged at at 8739 S. Aberdeen St. in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The attic was on fire, and crews went into the house to search for residents who were possibly trapped inside. The roof collapsed while the firefighters were in the house, and one firefighter was taken from the scene in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

All eight residents inside the home did make it out safely.
