This from the myjournalcourier.com on Friday:

At the top of the steps at 1664 Mount Zion Road lies a single bouquet of flowers — its vibrant colors in sharp contrast to the darkened ash all around.

A simple sign of life against a backdrop of tragic death.

Every now and then, a curious passer-by would slow down, look and move on. Investigators would spend time Thursday sifting through the debris, trying to determine what caused a fire that claimed the lives of mother Kayla Perry and her two sons, 7-year-old Joshua and 4-year-old Christopher.

The three died of smoke inhalation, according to Coroner Jeff Lair.

The residence — a trailer in Marnico Village — was destroyed. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The state fire marshal has been called to investigate.

For family and friends, the tragedy is almost beyond words.

The Chapin Fire Department was called to the fire around 1 a.m. Thursday, with South Jacksonville firefighters responding for mutual aid.

Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mike Carmody said it was a neighbor who reported the blaze, and said that the residence was possibly occupied.

By the time firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed.

Lair said Perry and her sons were pronounced dead at the scene around 1:25 a.m.

The father of the two boys, Blake Perry, and Kayla Perry were divorced and the two no longer lived together.
