Chicago 3-11 Alarm fire, 10/12/14

This from Eric Haak:

Still time was 1432 hrs followed by a still and box alarm at 1434 and a 2-11 at 1443.  Companies had fully involved back porches of a 2.5 story frame that had communicated to exposures on both sides and the alley garage.  Exposures were a 2.5 story ordinary on side D and a 1.5 story ordinary on side B.  The side D exposure also had a frame back porch addition.  A mayday was called when a company became trapped by rapidly advancing fire conditions which elevated the alarm to a 3-11.  Eventually there would be a second mayday as well and two firefighters were transported from the scene in yellow condition.  Engine 28 was pumping in sector A, Engine 39 at the entrance to the alley on Loomis Street, Engine 29 at the corner of Lyman and Ma Benton Lane and Engine 8 on Bonfield Street.  Tower Ladder 5 was set up but I don’t believe it was ever used.  Squad 1A was brought into sector A and did go to work on the attic.

Crown Point burndown

This from Larry Shapiro:

While driving on I65 last night through Crown Point, I spotted a fully-engulfed house off the road … appeared to be a turndown. I followed the smoke and found Crown Point (IN) firefighters at the tail end of burning down the house that they’d been training in for the past three days.

I grabbed a few shots and some video.

Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 9-26-14

This from Eric Haak:

Engine 126 arrived at 7733 S. South Shore Drive shortly before 1600 on Saturday afternoon and reported that they had a fire on the third floor of a five-story apartment building.  The fire was boxed less than 10 minutes later as the fire was communicating to the unit above the initial fire unit and calls were coming in from distressed residents on the 4th floor.  Companies led out through the basement garage and also through a 3rd floor window in the front of the building.  Chest compressions were performed and oxygen given in an attempt to resuscitate a dog that was rescued from the fire floor, but sadly those efforts were in vain. One resident was transported with minor smoke inhalation from the neighboring apartment.  Residents reported that there were no working smoke detectors on the fire floor.

3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 9-23-14

This from Josh Boyajian:

The 14th Battalion on Chicago’s West Side received a report of a building on fire near the intersection of Pulaski and Ogden Avenues. Engine 38 and Truck 48 arrived first-in around 0544 hours and reported they did have a fire, and requested a Still & Box. Battalion 14 arrived on-scene and reported heavy fire in a two-story, 50×125 commercial building. At 0621 hours and 0623 hours, the 2-11 and 3-11 Alarms were requested. Six master streams and four hand lines were used in an effort to surround and drown the fire. At 0802 hours, 2-1-6 struck out the 3-11. As of 1130 hours, companies were being relieved on the scene as they continue to chase hot spots and overhaul the structure. The building was reported to have a music recording studio on the first floor and a banquet hall on the 2nd.
Here are some shots from the fire.
