Extrication response in Buffalo Grove, 8-12-22

Police officers and firefighters in Buffalo Grove were dispatched for an accident with entrapment today (8/12/22) at 2:30PM. The address given was 1185 Auburn Lane, which is north of Lake Cook Road at Arlington Heights Road. The caller was a man who said he was trapped underneath his truck. The address was determined by a cell phone ping of the caller.

Responding units found a tractor-trailer parked in the northbound curb lane of Arlington Heights Road adjacent to the Auburn Lane address. The trucks’s driver, apparently parked there and crawled underneath to inspect or attempt to repair some mechanical issue. While underneath the truck, it appears that the rig may have moved slightly as the truck was on a slight downward slope. One of the rear wheels of the tractor pinned the driver’s foot, trapping him in place.

Firefighters had some concern about the rescue operation and perhaps the truck’s stability, so they requested Long Grove Squad 55 and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 to provide additional cribbing. At the same time, they requested an emergency response of a heavy wrecker to possibly lift the truck off of the driver. Shortly after a heavy wrecker arrived from Hillside Towing, firefighters were able to free the driver with airbags and the cribbing on hand. The two squads were cancelled and the tow truck stood by and eventually towed the tractor and trailer from the scene.

Motorcycle crash in Chicago, 7-31-21

Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:

In a scene on a crowded Chicago expressway this past weekend, a motorcycle crash ended in a blaze of flames. The motorcyclists performed their stunts right on the Stevenson Expressway.

Video shows one rider popping a wheelie and touching his feet together in midair. Moments later, he loses control while trying to touch the ground. Another rider violently flipped over the crashed bike, causing a fiery pileup. Other riders stopped to help and are even seen patting the fire out on one of the injured drivers

The riders involved in the crash identified themselves in a social media post. They are both OK, and said they accept the risk that goes along with stunt rides.

The motorcycle meetup attracted hundreds — some from out of state. They rode throughout the city all weekend, and a YouTube video shows those dangerous stunts up close.

Other video posted online from the Loop shows hundreds of motorcycles passing through — even using the sidewalk to get around.

Illinois State Police said they were called for the fiery crash, but by the time troopers arrived, the bikers were gone. State police said in a statement they know how frustrating reckless driving can be – adding that they take it very seriously and that it is one of the most cited complaints.
