Chicago hasn’t used the 888 in more than 20 years.

I think Elgin maintenance didn’t realize how easy it is to maintain an 888. Sometimes the gears get out of alignment but they’re really simple to adjust. Elgin went as far as removing the 888 on one of their KME’s.
I would also have rather seen Elgin use the HR100 E-One. Much better setup and the Ascendant is pretty flimsy. If you’re big and heavy like myself, the Ascendant ladder twists and bounces all over the place.

Love the new E-One drawings. I too would include an 888 light. I would also spec a raised roof over the jump seats if there are no door restrictions. I would prefer E-One aerials over Pierce, just because of the outrigger system. So easy and fast to set up. Anyone can build a decent engine, but aerials are a different story.

To add what Tyler stated, all fire companies have 3 guys/girls. All ambulances have 2 guys/girls.
All Elgin ambulances are F-450 4×4 Type 1 ambulances from Wheeled Coach.
Quint 1 is a 2020 Pierce Enforcer 107′ Ascendant Ladder
Quint 2 is a 2021 Pierce Arrow XT 75′ Aluminum Ladder
Engine 3 is a 2017 or 2018 E-One Typhoon
Engine 4 is a 2009 KME Severe Service
Engine 5 is a 2015 E-One Typhoon
Engine 6 is a 2007 Seagrave Marauder
Quint 7 is a 2012 Pierce Arrow XT Aluminum 100′ Tower
Elgin also has a 2005 Seagrave Marauder and a 2009 KME Severe Service used as reserves.
The current chief is working on bringing in a more uniform fleet. For many years, Elgin has had a very diversified fleet which consisted of multiple different specs and multiple different brands. The end goal is to have matching E-One engines and matching Pierce ladders.

We have two new eone cyclone engines. They have both held up very well. Solid rigs. The wider cab and extra head room is really nice.

This engine will be assigned to Engine 4 replacing the 2009 KME Severe Service engine.
I noticed a couple of Elgin traditions don’t seem to carry on, on this engine. No Mars 888 or bell.
Another interesting point is this is on a Cyclone chassis. The past 2 E-One engines for Elgin were on Typhoon chassis. I personally think the Cyclone is one of the best cabs on the market.
Elgin also has a Pierce Enforcer 107′ Ascendant on order to replace Quint 7 which is a 2012 Pierce Arrow XT. This rig has been a disaster which is why it’s being replaced out of sequence with other rigs. The Pierce tower was originally a Pierce demo, assigned to Truck 2, then moved to Station 7 to reduce the use since it was falling apart.
There is a rumor that Elgin is going to order another duplicate E-One engine to go to Engine 6 which is a 2007 Seagrave Marauder which has held up quite well.
