This from Eric Haak:
I took advantage of a slow Saturday (6/17) to go see some rigs that I do not normally get an opportunity to see. Far south suburban Manhattan Fire Protection District was training in a fairly large late-1800’s farm house which is currently owned by the park district. Once the training was over, the old house was burned to the ground. It was kind of an interesting setup as there was a historic round barn which needed to be protected so they had Peotone’s Truck 14 set up and ready just in case of an emergency.

I have to commend both Frankfort and Smeal for reviving the Snorkel for fire service use. They have been a proven asset in Chicago, Evergreen Park and many other communities. The problems that Frankfort is experiencing are no different than those that occur when any truck or car manufacturer comes out with a brand new model. There are bound to be glitches. It’s a learning experience. I am certain Chicago will have their share of glitches with their new Rosenbauers. As for Frankfort’s Tower, since they have not had any buyers (the rig has no pump or water tank), I would suggest they load it with specialized rescue gear, and run it area-wide as a “Rescue/Tower”. This way they would have most all their rescue equipment on one rig that would given them aerial rescue capability as well. They could cross-staff it with the engine/ambulance crew at any of their five stations.

What a fu—ed up management staff they have. Just buy rigs and NO thought at all on the needs. I guess new and cool will buy it!

Squad 71 is OOS & is back at Smeal. The issue seems to be with the outriggers & the leveling system. Engine 71(2009 Pierce Puc) is back running in its place. The district was quoted a price of about 150k to put a pump on the tower from Pierce. Maybe that could be a option for them.

With the Snorkel back at Smeal, what are they running out of station 71?

The Snorkel is out of service again and back at Smeal, how they ever justified buying it and parking the tower ladder is a great mystery.

I thought so too! I am surprised to see the Frankfort tower in the photos! I know they recently took delivery of a brand new tanker!
