The compartment door paint will just fleck off and they’d be silver again in a year anyway, so I say kudos on not wasting paint.

Not a fan of the silver compartment doors.

Looks like the squads are nearing completion. I guess they will go into service all at once. Did any of the new e-one engines go in service yet? Take care John

Why do they have so few compartments on the rescue style squads?
#7 by Brian on July 11, 2016 - 1:46 PM
As a walk in, inside has compartments

So all 4 of the current Squads will be getting new rigs which is what we were told a few years ago when the contract was signed. Since there really aren’t any surprises and no new Squad companies will be going in service, I would like to suggest considering moving Squad 5 further south. Squad 5 not only is the busiest Squad company but it has the largest district by far and short of adding a 5th Squad company to the fleet (which apparently the CFD is not going to do) It only makes sense to move the Squad further south in order to be more centrally located within it’s running district. I would suggest Engine 122’s quarters which is where they originally were first put the Squad in service ( Sept 19.1983) as a Snorkel Squad. Engine 122 is a more strategically placed location on the south side and is located less then 2 blocks from the Dan Ryan expressway. That station is also closer to 5th District which covers the far south side which is where Squad 5 does alot of running to begin with. Engine 122’s station is also near the 23rd Battalion which also gets a pretty good share of fires as does the 22nd Battalion and the new 19th Battalion which is the Battalion that Engine 122 is assigned to. Engine 122’s house would be a good location even they were putting new Squad company in service but even with only one Squad on the south side it is still a good location for a Squad company. If there isn’t enough room for 275 (the Command Van) then I would suggest moving the Command Van either to Engine 72,121, or 47’s house which all have more space. Another possible location for Squad 5 would also be Engine 47’s house but it still is not quite as centrally located as Engine 122’s station is.

I am guessing once these are delivered, the current squads will go into reserve, including Squad 7, even though it was recently refurbished. I am guessing that the city will be able to get rid of the last remaining 1988 snorkel once the new squads are in service. So far, they look really nice!

Not real sure, but I heard it was going to be a spare for Squad 7 and for the Hazmat rig.

Well it’s good to finally see some photos of the rigs nearing completion. These are probably the first shots the rigs that the public is seeing.
I wouldn’t be totally surprised if they start running with the squads ahead of the Snorkels. I remember that during the summer of 2000 when the current squads were put in service I did see Squad 2’s box rig running on the North Side around June without the Snorkel. By the end of the summer all of the squads had both pieces in service. I’m not saying that is what’s going to happen this time however. That was just one instancen from 2000.

Are the square going to be delivered before the snorkels?
#14 by mike on July 9, 2016 - 11:23 PM
Dont think so, the squads are one company as a whole so Im sure both the squad and snorkel would be delivered at the same time.

Are they giving the squads to squads 1, 2, 5 and 7 altogether
#16 by Mo it all on July 9, 2016 - 6:00 PM
That sounds correct. No new squad companies will be put in service.

Yes, every squad is getting new rigs. I was told this when I stopped by station 42, and I was asking the squad 1 Lt. Who was getting the new squads.
