You guessed it, Milt–a ‘Google’ was indeed in order…found an article in the Greek Bay Gazette, talking about the Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade:

Yes they do have one. I toured that wonderful place in 2010 on my vacation. I don’t know where they store the apparatus but they have them somewhere.
I feel a GOOGLE coming on now.

Now THAT paint scheme is bad ass! You’re telling me a whiskey distillery has its own fire engine??

Check out the current issue of FIRE APPARATUS JOURNAL. There is a beautful PIERCE VELOCITY for the JACK DANIELS distillery. Black with gold stripes.
Or see it here.

Lol, Milt…I just like my rigs in classic red, white, & black.

First of all Josh Thank You for featuring The Gary Fire Department on this site. For some history on the Blue over Red on our rigs, we have been running with this color since the mid 1980’s when I joined the department. At first this color was a dark blue on our older open cab rigs. In 1989 Fire Chief Ben Perry took over as chief of the department and ordered three Seagraves Engines with the “J” cab 1500 gpm/500 gallons (these were our first closed cab engines) along with a Seagrave RA 110ft. Aerial and LTI 100ft. Tower Ladder. In 1990 the Pierce Fire Apparatus Company won the bid for six Pierce Arrow Engines and it was said that the shade of blue (that Chief Perry picked was unique in color) so it was called Perry Blue. Been around these Rigs and these colors for over 30 years and I’ve have gotten used to it.

Josh:
When was Truck 7 repaired? Is it staffed or in service only when manpower is permitting? Also wasn’t Squad 1 or Squad 3 totaled responding to a run? I thought they’re running only one of those light rescues as Squad 2 now.
Fartin’ Fred:
I believe Gary has had that blue over red paint scheme since the early 80’s. Prior to that they had black over red. I read online somewhere that the shade of blue was named after a former Gary fire chief.

Whats up with the blue on the roofs of the cabs? I’m not a fan

Gary Fire Department has been blue over red for years! I think it’s unique to them. The newest engines and one truck are white over red due to Gary buying them as emergency purchase demos.

Fred:
Perry Blue, named after Chief Benjamin Perry, who switched the color scheme to separate their look from Chicago in around 1989.
