In 2005, Squad 51 was introduced and put into service thanks to grants and department funding. Over the past 20 years, it has responded to numerous emergencies in Lake, Cook, McHenry, and even Kenosha counties. Squad 51 has been utilized for emergency medical services (EMS), auto accidents, residential and commercial fires, and technical rescues, including trench and structural collapse incidents. It has consistently served as our reliable workhorse, stepping in for fire engines and our ladder truck when they required maintenance and repairs. We are very excited to introduce our NEW Squad 51 and are confident it will serve us just as well as its predecessor. We invite you to stop by Station 51 to take a look at our new squad and perhaps even say goodbye to the original Squad 51! More pictures and videos of the new squad coming soon!!

From Chi-Town Fire Photos:
This is from a fire on 12/21/24. The MFAO gave a working fire response to the corner of Homan and Congress, right at sunrise. Engine Co. 44 arrived to find heavy fire showing from a vacant grey stone at 3336 W Congress Parkway. Companies initially made an aggressive interior attack, but could not make it much past the stairs. Battalion 18 arrived on scene, pulled everyone out, went defensive, and pulled a Box. Engine 107 was the second engine and led out down a gangway to the rear and had an exposure line flowing on the D side. Engine 95 was the third engine, and they led out down the alley to the rear, and had a 2.5″ flowing on the B side exposure. Tower 5 was the Box truck, and was put to work on arrival.

Chicago Fire Department news
Dec 23
Excerpts from cwbchicago.com:
An on-duty Chicago Fire Department ambulance crew was robbed while responding to a call in Auburn Gresham overnight. The paramedics managed to overpower the robber and hold him until police arrived.
Ambulance 24 responded to a call about a person with respiratory problems in the 7900 block of South Throop around 1:45 a.m. After they arrived, a man approached the ambulance team, implied he had a weapon, and took cash from the victims, according to CPD.
The fire department team overpowered the robber and quickly jumped on the radio to declare a “10-1” emergency, bringing extra fire department and police resources to the scene. Here’s what it sounded like on the fire department’s radio network:
Police took the robber into custody. CPD said the ambulance crew suffered minor injuries during the altercation. No weapon was found, but police did recover some of the victims’ money.
