Mike and Mike C you brought up an interesting fact about Glenview Truck 14 which is reality is a Quint Unit. I myself don’t know how often they actually put their pump to work or how much they actually do take off a line and put it to work as even though Truck (Quint)14 is in nice sized 3 bay fire station they are the only active unit that is actually in service at Station 14.
Station 14 does have a pretty large first due area with alot commercial and residential properties as most of Station 14s first due area consists of the the former Glenview Naval Air Station.
Before Station 14 was opened the Truck Company in Glenview was initially Co/located with Engine 6 at their “Old Station” on Glenview road in downtown Glenview and they also at times had been located with Engine 8 at fire Station 8 at 1901 Landwehr on the West side of town.
I would like to point out that Glenview Truck 14 also normally responds on Automatic Aide as well on Mutual Aide into Northbrook Illinois as the village boundary line with Northbrook Illinois isn’t more than a mile north of the Station 14 and happens to be on Willow Road which is a major artery as well as a Major Commericial center with large commericial properties just north of WIllow road in Northbrook.
The Village of Northbrook also owns some of the land a few blocks west of the Fire Station 14 which is just West of the Railroad Tracks near Willow and Shermer Roads. It turns out that Northbrook Fire Station 12 which is the Nearest Northbrook Station and is First due north of Willow Road is Coincidentally also a Truck/Quint unit fire station so on most of the Automatic Aide runs into Northbrook just north of WIllow and West of Shermer Roads Truck 14 is usually the 2nd due company at Northbrook Tower 12 and that Area Along Shemer road south of Willow just west of the railroad Tracks the 2nd due company to Truck 14 in also Northbrook Tower 12.
So that area near the border of Glenview and Northbrook normally gets a 2 Truck company response as the first and second due companies well before any Engine company arrives. Given that the area is only a mile to a mile and a half from Glenview Station 14 and Northbrook Station 12 one of those 2 Truck (Quint) companies need to act as the Engine company as Northbrook Station 12 also doesn’t normally run with a fully manned Engine company.
Since neither Station 14 or Station 12 run with regular Engine companies either Glenview Truck 14 or Northbrook Tower 12 do at time assume Engine company duties as Neither of the 2 Station are that close an Engine company.
Ideally speaking it would be good if Glenview Truck 14 were colocated with an Engine company but so far I don’t see the Village of Glenview putting a 5th Engine company in service with Truck 14.
Just a few years ago the Village of Glenview did attempt to close Station 13 as Station 13 and Station 6 are just slightly over a mile apart however public hearings were held and both community residents of East Glenview strongly objected to the Village closing down Station 13.
Based on the distance between Station 6 and 13 it would actully make sense if Truck 14 were relocated to Station 6 and then relocate Engine 6 to Station 14.
The current Station 14 which only runs with the Truck (Quint) Unit is a good 2 and a half miles from Stations 6, 7 and 8 which are the closest Engines to Station 14. Northbrook Station 12 is actually closer to Glenview Station 14 than the other Glenview Station are and like I previously mentioned Northbrook Station 12 also is Truck (Quint ) Station.3

Mike C. I’m not really sure how much they even use the pump on truck 14. I know it has its own still district but I think an engine usually follows them on a lot of stuff. I think the pump is there as a last resort.

I would have figured Glenview would have opted for both pumps to be the same. I wish them luck. Very good people in Glenview!

Always loved Glenview’s classy paint scheme. I’m kind of a fan of the silver wheels though. Have they gotten away from their typical ‘blue & red’ light patterns?
These 2 rigs plus the new ambulance 8 they just got delivered makes a nice hat trick
