From the City of Elgin Facebook page:
It’s finally here! Check out the newest addition to Elgin’s fleet. The versatile mobile emergency operations vehicle ramps up the city’s emergency response efforts to benefit the community. Stay tuned for more info to come on February 14 before the unit officially hits the road!
thanks Keith

Well they could loan it out to neighboring municipalities or counties for large incidents or special events as needed or requested.

I don’t think I would even go as far to say they should have a smaller one. The City of Elgin has a few vehicles that get little or no use. Kind of like the TRT Mabas truck at Station #2. That rig has had almost no use in the past 20 years except for some training here and there. I believe the rig went to assist after Hurricane Katrina and I think it might have had one or two other calls.
Don’t get me wrong, the new mobile command vehicle is nice, but I bet it gets very little use.

I agree Mike. While Elgin is a bigger city of about 115k, I can’t think of many instances where this would be necessarily for fire or police in or around Elgin. I lived by Elgin for over 30 years, and can’t think of very many instances where this would have been needed. Its great to have a command vehicle, and they should have one, but not this big.

Very nice but for some reason, I have a feeling this vehicle will only be used in parades, festivals, and on the very rare occasion, maybe a major incident. It appears this was built by LDV who makes a solid product!
