Milwaukee firefighters responded to a house fire on North 26th Street near West Melvina Street shortly after 1 AM on Wednesday, May 11th.
No injuries were reported.

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded about 6:15 p.m. Monday to a house in the 11800 block of Cape Code Lane and found smoke and fire from both the front and rear. The homeowner and their dog were able to get out of the building before firefighters arrived.
It took about 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. It was not known if the house had working smoke detectors.
Windy conditions are suspected to have caused the fire to spread quickly, and because of the risk for neighboring homes, the incident was upgraded.
The fire caused about $500,000 worth of damages, and the cause is under investigation.

Milwaukee police are investigating a vehicle fire near North 6th Street & West Locust Street just before 1 AM on Sunday, May 8th. When firefighters arrived, they found a Ford Explorer on fire. No one was injured.

Oak Forest officials have signed an intergovernmental agreement with the Orland Fire Protection District to have the south suburb’s fleet repaired at OFPD’s new maintenance facility, Fire Chief Gary Kasper said at a city council meeting.
The department first submitted a request for proposals to source local companies who would be able to repair the aging fleet within the department’s budget. While two companies responded to the proposal, neither was cost effective enough for the department.
Throughout the process, Kasper met with OFPD officials and finally decided the cost of utilizing the district’s maintenance workers and center would be best for the budget and equipment.
Oak Forest vehicles will only be brought to the new facility for preventative maintenance and occasional repairs. The agreement does not mean either department will share or exchange equipment.

Milwaukee Police officers observed a driver conduct a drug deal near South 18th Street and West National Avenue around 1:25 AM on Thursday, May 5th.
When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver fled and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit ended with a crash at North 16th Street and West Wells Street. The driver fled on foot but was arrested one block away. A gun and drugs were recovered on scene.There were no reported injuries.

Schaumburg Fire Department Battalion Chief John Schneidwind is retiring this week after 34 years to become chief of the Itasca Fire Protection District.
For the past 20 years, Schneidwind has been called upon to share memories of his five fateful days in New York City as one of three members of the Schaumburg Fire Department who traveled to the World Trade Center after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack and how his perspective on them has changed over time.
In September 2001, he had two young children at home. Today, he is a grandfather.
Volunteering for the trip started with him being asked to work his supervisor’s shifts in Schaumburg so that the supervisor could go to New York. Schneidwind instead asked whether there was room for him to go along as well. A large part of his motivation to join firefighters from across the nation at ground zero was the notion that they were taking part in a rescue mission, not just a recovery.
During one all-too-brief moment, he felt that wish might be fulfilled. He came upon a huge celebration and cheers after four firefighters were pulled alive from the rubble. But he later learned they had become trapped only earlier that day and were not part of the original collapse.
By the end of the trip, he was drained both emotionally and physically, but also deeply proud of his profession.

The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1425 West Greenfield Avenue around 12:30 AM on Monday, May 2, 2022. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from a rear cottage. No one was injured.
