Excerpts from postcrescent.com:
Pierce Manufacturing’s lobby was filled last week with potential employees during the company’s second hiring event in an effort to fill 200 new positions that’ll be created by an expansion of its plants in Neenah and Fox Crossing. Those jobs include welders, painters, electricians, assemblers, and material coordinators.
Pierce announced in November it would start work on a 90,000-square-foot expansion of its Fox Crossing location and a 60,000-square-foot expansion of its Neenah facility. The company said the expansions, expected to be done in the fall, are needed to help it keep up with global demand for its trucks.
Job offers had been extended to more than 50 people within an hour of the start of last week’s hiring event. The company hired about 60 people at at a similar event in October. While the expansion isn’t expected to be completed until fall, new hires will not have to wait until it is completed to begin working at the factory.
Although supply shortages are affecting manufacturers across the nation, Pierce’s productivity hasn’t seen any dramatic changes because of it.
thanks Martin

Crabby – I wouldn’t consider Pierce and Seagrave to be in a bad spot in terms of sales. They both have record sales which led to the crazy long backlog.
Hairy – I don’t remember the fire apparatus market having apparatus readily available like the auto industry with the exception of a few demos. In fact, prior to COVID, and supply chain issues, there were even some manufacturers didn’t have demo trucks because of their choice. The demos always had the snot beat out of them when they were out being demonstrated.

I was fortunate late last year. I bought a ’21 NISSAN ALTIMA and they had 2 of the sub model I wanted. You just have to keep looking. Yes, it’s sad that people don’t want to work but I have no sympathy for people like that if they find themselves in $$trouble.

Well it is like car dealers remember when u could buy the car or truck u wanted right then and there no more

I think it comes down to pent up demand because of COVID. This bad spot we’re in now will eventually recover so perhaps they are putting things in place for when it does.

Sadly these fire apparatus builders are having a hell of a time finding staff to build the trucks!!!

Crazy to see these fire apparatus continuing to expand. Ferrara is building a large addition.
Seagrave just opened another facility in Wausau.
Pierce is now expanding.
I can’t speak on behalf of Ferrara’s backlog but if it’s anything like Pierce or Seagrave, they both have customers waiting more than 500 days for their rig. Why is the market so hot right now??
