Excerpts from kicdam.com:
A change of leadership is underway at the Storm Lake Fire Department as long time Chief Mike Jones enters into retirement. Jones joined the fire service in the mid-1990s climbing the ladder of command until becoming fire chief in 2001.
Incoming Chief Glenn Schlesser has been a firefighter for more than 20 years and most recently served the Chicago area. He says it is important for a community like Storm Lake to continue having a full-time leader serving on the fire department.
Chief Schlesser wants to focus on recruitment now that he is in Storm Lake along with continuing practices that keep firefighters safe in a constantly changing industry.
Excerpts from the StormLakeTimes.com:
The City of Storm Lake has named a Chicagoland fire captain and 911 dispatcher as its next fire chief, according to documents from a civil service commission meeting.
The commission named Glenn Schlesser, a former fire district chief in Northwest Indiana and full-time employee of Navy Pier fire squad in downtown Chicago, as the only eligible candidate to succeed Chief Mike Jones, who’s retiring after 38 years with the SLFD.
