The helicopter had just taken off from Chicago Executive (Palwaukee) Airport then crashed into the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Apple Drive. This is south of Palatine Road and north of the intersection with River Road. The only soul on board was the pilot and he experienced non-life threatening injuries. A Wheeling ambulance transported him to the hospital. Firefighters stood by until the FAA arrived and the aircraft was removed.

I looked into this a bit more. This particular helicopter ROBINSON R44 has been around for many years but seems to have a recent history of engine failure.
