From Jim Skrabel:
Here are a few pictures of Joliet’s new Quint 9 on the city’s west side. It was placed in service about three weeks ago. I took the pictures this morning during the daily operational check. It is a 2021 Emergency One HR100 on Typhoon chassis with a 1500gpm pump and 500 gallon tank.

The last time I was downtown and able to look into the firehouse it was still there. JFD appears to be making a strong effort to have a spare in each house of whatever apparatus type happens to be running. Anyone from JFD stalking this who can chime in?

Total agree to having a STAFFED engine company AND a STAFFED truck company running out of this house.
So did Joliet get rid of Truck 11, the actual reserve truck, which was kept at Station 1?
#6 by Behind the Mic on August 7, 2021 - 6:51 AM
Truck 9 is the reserve truck. While Quint 9 was being built, and the old one was taken OOS, Joliet was manning Station 9 with an engine and truck (the way it should be). Living in Station 9’s 2nd due, it was nice to have the engine/truck combo there.

Yes, I am quite aware that the former Quint 8/9 is a 75 footer. Other than the main size, booster tank location and suspension it is still similar to the new Quint 9.
Does anyone know if Joliet sold the former brand new Truck 9? Last I heard it sat O.O.S. with only around 1000 miles on it and couldn’t be used downtown because “it is too tall.”

MABAS 21, the 92 E-One that was Quint 8/9 is only a 75′ model. Much different than the 100′ model. Plus, as was pointed out by Mike C, that independent front suspension could be an issue. I know the TAK-4 on the Pierce rigs causes nothing but maintenance trouble and is not designed for over the road driving.

Their previous E-One quint, 8 then 9, has held up pretty well for as old as it is and it has a single rear axle.

Crabby, that’s probably a direct feed to the ladderpipe. It bypasses the pump and goes straight to the ladder….Or its a discharge.

Just behind the rear sticking out below, is that a hard suction connection?

Sharp looking rig!

I would be less concerned about the rear axle on this truck then the independent front suspension which commonly fails on a different brand of apparatus.

Harry, I think he was saying the weight of a quint on a single axle. Chicago does not have any quints, that adds a lot of weight. Water, Hose, Pump, etc.

Time will tell. So used to seeing twin axle versions but I guess both have their pros and cons.

I forgot to mention the front bumper contains two jump-lines.

Crabby – I’m confident the single axle will work great for them!
That front bumper is quite intricate!
Top notch!

Looks great. Hopefully the single axle can handle it over the next many years.
