Mike Mc, I haven’t seen the squads’ current districts posted anywhere, which I wouldn’t mind seeing. I know for a fact that Squad 1 and 2’s districts were changed somewhere around 2010. I do have a few of their old district maps before they were changed.
The boundary between Squad 1 and 2 is probably Pulaski on the west side at least south of Madison Street or Roosevelt Road. Squad 1 most likely has Pulaski Road. Squad 1 currently goes to the city limits on the north side, to Ashland and Juneway, which is about two blocks north of Howard Street. Ashland Avenue is the current boundary between Squad 1 and 2 from at least Diversey going north. Prior to that, Squad 2 used to respond along the Lakefront from either Diversey or Fullerton avenue going north. I am pretty sure they made Ashland the new boundary because they figure if Squad 1 got onto Lakeshore Drive they could beat Squad 2 to the city limits.
When it comes to the far west side, the boundary used to be Madison Street west of Pulaski and also possibly west of Kedzie. I am pretty sure that was based on Squad 1 getting onto the Eisenhower Expressway to the far west side. However, now Squad 2 responds west of Pulaski and apparently south of Roosevelt Road as well. The south border is 39th Street (Pershing Road). So while the districts are complicated, they do a lot of zigzagging between the north and west sides. Squad 5’s district is pretty simple. Their northern border has been 3900 south for many years.
Having Pershing Road as the border between the three squads really doesn’t make sense on the southwest side going at least west of Ashland. An example is there was a 3-11 Alarm on November 20th at 3849 S Kedzie and Squad 1 was dispatched even though Squad 5 is located much closer to the address. The boundary should be Cermak Road going west of Ashland Ave. I’m surprised the CFD never changed the boundary line for Squads 5 and 1 on the southwest side. I have a hunch that Pershing Road may have been from September 1983 when they first put the Snorkel Squads in service. Squad 5 was at Engine 122, Squad 1 was at Engine 5, and Squad 2 was at Engine 106.

So Squad 2 goes to 4425 W. 16th but Squad 1 goes to 1259 S. Homan? Is it because it was west of Pulaski? Are the squad districts posted anywhere? Thanks.

In the days of yore a 65,000 sq foot fire would’ve been the long forgotten 5-11

The fire was escalated to a 4-11. It was on live Sky Cam on ABC news on the internet.
