also niles has been vey loyal to pierce since at least 1989 and they have yet another pierce on order to replace e2 again and 3 will get 2 old one and then the one 2 got a few years ago that is 3 now will the one of the spares so when the new one arrives they will be either 1992 and 2013 in reserve and 2014 and 2019 frontline or they may keep the 2001 and get rid of the 1992 they are not sure

bill I was told by the Skokie public works guys that the chief that came from Louisville came as quick as he left so the chance of anything but pierce is very unlikely they told me he was there like a month or so

Speaking of loyalty to one manufacturer, there are a number of departments on the Northshore, which is mainly MABAS Division 3, that have been loyal. Skokie has been buying from Pierce since at least 1988, and while there was an exception when they purchased a Spartan/Luverne pumper/squad in 1993 (which is currently their reserve squad) and a 1997 Sterling/Marion rescue which is unmanned, all of their current front line apparatus is Pierce. Skokie’s new chief is formerly from Louisville, Kentucky which is a Seagrave town. The rumor is that he still prefers Seagrave so there is distinct possibility that Skokie might start purchasing from Seagrave in the future. Evanston also is primarily a Pierce town with the exception of their heavy rescue squad which is a 2005 Spartan/Marion and is a cross/manned unit.
Since the mid 2000’s, Glenview has been a Pierce customer in a addition to a few other departments. I have to admit that it would be interesting if Skokie decides to start buying from Seagrave after being a good Pierce customer for 30 years.

Brand loyalty is dead. It’s who can provide the best rig for the right money. Sometimes it works out that way. Depends on who is running the show. Some Chiefs love or hate a manufacturer or have had issues with one that they wont buy again..

I get what Harry is saying, he is just basically saying how they are skipping around with manufactures. Yes lots of departments have no “loyalty” to a manufacture, however there are many larger departments who prefer everything from the same company as its easier to maintain. Also over time departments might change manufactures and have or are in the process of changing. One that comes to mind is St.Charles. They were all Seagrave for over 30 years, now they are in the processes of going to all Pierce.
Mike C I don’t think there is any department that has kept the same manufacture from day one, that is basically impossible. Rockford is in the processes as well with going with just Pierce, but these things take time. I can also think of many more departments that haven’t changed manufactures in ages. Lombard is one that comes to mind, they have had all Pierce for sometime. At the end of the day I think the whole “brand loyalty” thing is being a bit blown out of proportion here. Its not like some departments want to change manufactures, or have multiple ones, many must buy what the town will let them buy i.e. the cheapest.

This is not a surprise or a shock to me at all. Oak Park has not been loyal to any brand and as management and opinions change over the years, so do the manufacturers. There are very few fire departments in the Chicagoland area that has remained loyal to one brand. Aurora is probably the most notably consistent buyer. Naperville, Chicago, Elgin, Rockford, have all jumped around over the past couple decades.

tim not to argue but yes I would think that would make sense rather than having to stock pierce eone hme ford and so on parts while no dept like u said is compely loyal which is not fully true but is for the most part true like the city in florida I like palm beach gardens has been pierce for over 30 full years

Harry i read your earlier post but so what? Are you shocked they’re not buying an E-1?
#12 by harry on April 19, 2019 - 10:10 PM
tim as I said b4 from like 1997 to 2009 they were all hme engines and truck but not anymore
#13 by Tim on April 19, 2019 - 8:24 PM
Harry, why is that a shock? There’s no loyalty to any specific manufacturer with any department.
