From the Fire Service, Inc. Facebook page:
Fire Service, Inc. congratulates the Melrose Park Fire Department (IL) on the delivery of their 4th Wheeled Coach Type III ambulance. This unit’s custom ALS cabinet, Duralite CN 10 compliant interior cabinets, and Per4Max restraints are key elements to the performance and durability that Melrose Park depends on. Whelen M-series warning and interior domes and the new under ride bumper assembly compliment this unit well. Melrose Park will provide the final touch with graphics and it will soon begin servicing the City of Melrose Park for many years to come. We thank the Melrose Park Fire Department administration for the continued trust in Wheeled Coach and Fire Service, Inc. to provide solutions to their needs !

I guess I need to retract that then.
I know I saw the type 3 in the FORD ambulance brochure at one time but I guess see the type 2 in person and I see the TRANSIT more times a day than I can count.
I guess SPRINTER is the only after all.

Crabby, you see Type III Transit chassis ambulances in the US? There are plenty of Type II but I’ve never seen a Type III. Those are all Sprinter chassis that look similar to Transit.

I have seen several Transit ambulances, but mostly for private companies like AMR and Superior. I haven’t seen any for an actual department yet, but I am sure they are around.
Was this custom built or a demo? It almost looks like a demo.

I should add that the E SERIES offers a higher GVW than the transit which tops out around 10000-11000 range. The E SERIES goes up to 14000-15000 so they bridge the gap between the TRANSIT 350 and F series.
They are still popular for airport/hotel/car rental shuttle bus platforms that need a higher GVW than the TRANSIT chassis can handle.

FORD plans to keep building the E SERIES for at least 5 or more years.
In fact they just announced that the new 7X gasoline V8 will replace the grand old V10 in 2021 in the E SERIES.
I see TRANSIT ambulance chassis units around here quite often so just use GOOGLE to see what they look like if you want to know.

well as of yet I have not seen in person or pictures of a transit cutaway ambulance so there must not be a market for it yet

I thought Ford would’ve discontinued the E-series Cutaway by now. Between the Transit Cutaways and the E-series Cutaways, it just doesn’t seem like a big enough market to offer two cutaways.
