Flames and smoke rise from the windows at the Gotham Industries, Inc. plant at 540 N Orleans Street on Feb. 9, 1965. More than 80 employees fled without injury. The company manufactured plastics for the kitchen and other housewares. Dense smoke blocked the Ontario Street entrance and Ohio Street exit to the Kennedy expressway.
