Excerpts from the ChicagoTribune.com:
U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider visited the Greater Round Lake FPD where two grants totaling over $600,000 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency were used to purchase an exhaust system and air packs for firefighters over the past two years.
Schneider is hosting a grant workshop May 14 with U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Sen. Tammy Duckworth.
The morning session will focus on grants available to local governments, primarily villages and cities, through a panel of grant professionals who will outline what kind of projects would qualify for grant funding.
Panelists will include representatives from FEMA, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Department of Transportation, Illinois Treasurer’s Office, Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, and more.
The afternoon session will focus on grants available to non-profits and individuals, with a panel of professionals from FEMA, the nonprofit organization Forefront, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

They replaced air packs last year on a AFG and this year they did the plymovents. Air packs are almost 6,000 a unit and the plymovents needed to be done in all 3 firehouses because they didn’t have any exhaust removal system. You can’t buy a pierce for 400,000. Round lake bought a spartan custom fire in 2015 for 425,000. Maybe do some research before you go bashing people on here.

Learn to read better. And you are being critical of them. Air packs were included so that’s about $450-500k and an exhaust system would be about $100-150k. And a Pierce engine doesn’t cost $400k. They haven’t been that price for 10 years unless it was on a 2 door commercial chassis.

Just wondering… what kind of exhaust system costs $600,000.00? That’s close to the cost of a new good ladder truck. I can understand the constant need to keep up and buy new air packs but that must be some kind of exhaust system. Maybe they could use it on capitol hill? Folks, this is all our money and I’m happy for Round Lake’s grant. I just question its use on an exhaust system. I would think a good, Pierce $400,000.00 pumper and some new air packs would be a great addition to Round out Round Lake’s department. Perhaps I simply do not understand what an expensive exhaust system of this magnitude really does. Don’t mean to be critical. Just learning day by day.
