This from Jeff Rudolph:
Lake Villa FPD took delivery of 2 Ford F 550 4×4/AEV ambulances. They will replace the 09 Osage, and the 13 AEV. An additional unit will be purchased in 2018, making all 4 frontline and 1 reserve units identical. Jeff Rudolph

Ok, A243 &A241R are both 2010 Ford F450/2011 Osage, they will be taken out of service and traded in, and the new ones will replace them. A241 & A242 are twin 2015 Ford F550/AEV. A244 is the 2013 Chevy / AEV that will become A241R until next year when an additional Ford/AEV will be bought. A new boat is also on order.

The difference between an F450 and an F550 is the payload it can handle, i.e. weight. While the F450 can hold the box, like Mike S said it was almost maxed out. Departments are buying the F550’s hoping the will last longer since they aren’t at their limit,

I think the 550 is similar to the 450 I don’t think it really makes a difference

More and more departments are opting for the F-550 chassis these days. Was the F-450 insufficient? Thought the F-450 was just about maxed out on the rear axle once loaded. Didn’t think F-550 was necessary. Let me know what your thoughts are. Thanks!

Lake Villa bought a 2015 or 2016 F550 recently also. It’s been running front line for a few months now and has been bouncing between Station 1 and 2. The chevy van is at Station 4 usually and the Ford van is at Station 3.
