This from Mike Summa:
For throwback Thursday, here is a picture of one of the Blue Island Fire Dept.’s three auxiliary stations built in the 1880’s. This one was in my neighborhood, on High St. on the east side of town. These stations lasted until about 1916 when the department went motorized and all three auxiliary stations were closed. This station was still around until the 1960’s when it was torn down to make way for a new house.Mike Summa

Unknown what equipment or manpower was utilized there. But looking back I can not imagine what was left inside for all those years. I can only imagine great old fire equipment just laying around. When riding around on our bikes doors and windows were boarded up.

Mike, any idea what type of equipment was housed in these stations…and how they were manned ?

Dennis, I found this photo in a memorial book published by St. Donatus Church. The church and school grounds are across the street from the fire house. I do not know location of the other 2 houses.

Mike where did you find this photo and do you have a list of the other locations? I’ve spent the past 5 years trying to find info on the Blue Island FD history. I knew they had 4-5 houses at one time.
