@Jim. They don’t staff Tower 181. It is cross – manned with Engine 142 / Ambulance 152’s crew.

Why did Cicero unload their E-One tower and then wait almost a year for the Pierce replacement that is due soon? Problems with viaducts or narrow streets?

This truck is a beautiful truck. When they ordered it it had just about every option that Ferrara had to offer at the time. Whomever buys it will get a good truck for years to come. It reminds me of Oak Lawn when they changed fire chiefs and philosophies their 100ft Straight Truck with no pump was traded off and replaced with a 75ft Quint.

Somebody call and ask for the Chief, Pete Van Dorpe. he’s an old Chicago hand. I’m sure he’d be happy to tell you. Or not.

Do they regularly staff the tower? Or is it just an out of town vehicle?

Bill, I don’t see Chicago buying a used one off. I know they bought a one off demo from ALF that’s now TL5 but that wasn’t used and this isn’t the crisis it was then. Close though.

Yes you can’t help but wonder why they are selling a relatively new Tower Ladder. For example are they having any mechanical issues with the Truck ,because if they are not perhaps Chicago could purchase it?

plus sometimes one time pierce may be low bidder or eone or seagrave or so on like look at chicago back in 93-96 they had seagrave ladders 00 eone 02-07 pierce then in 09-11 i belive spartan and now it appears they are back to eone a lot of time it is preferance and a lot of time it is a good deal

If I remember right the Crimson ladder award was rebid. The original award was to e-one and something happened.

Sebastian…. Downers Grove’s pierce tower was not a Lemon.. It was 14 years old at the time it was sold off and it was due to be replaced at 15 years anyway. It had almost 100K miles on it and was In need of a replacement due to the stress of being used to chase ambulance calls and run village wide on every AFA. Smeal had a Demo on the line that was within budget and would be delivered in 90 days. Pierce could not meet that. As a matter of fact it was refurbished and is currently still in service in Tigerville NC.

Why are they selling a 5 year old ladder truck? Are they going to replace it? Did they decide they did not need it? Did this truck turn out to be a lemon?
