Engine Co. 33 runs with 3 men and the 4th at that station is the Battalion Chief. They run ambulances on the North and South (Ravinia District) side of town. So one being at Station 32 and the other located at Station 34. This rig is also supposed to be a pumper squad which is replacing a 200 pierce saber I believe it is. Not sure what they are going to go by. Truck Co. 33 is now a days only used for mutual aid for fires in Deerfield or Northbrook. They will go to fires in their own town but it would be with the call back personnel. Highland Park always has 12 people on shift at all times. and during the week days the chiefs are at Station 33, the HQ. Hope that helps for any one with questions.

Fred the new Engine will replace Squad 34 which is also a pumper /Squad. Engine 34 exchanged rig with Squad 33 a few years ago so now it is Squad 34. I went to presentation at the Highland Park Library about the history of the Highland Park fire department about a week and a half ago and they have few years before they order a new Truck however who really knows if they will order a new Truck as the Truck is isn’t always manned. It really depends on how many men are on duty on that particular day. If the Truck is due on mutual aide it is sometimes cross manned by the Engine of if is needed in town at a fire they will sometime have a neighbor Engine pick it up and drive it to the scene or else it will be manned by “call back” personnel. Yes it is hard to believe but Highland Park only runs 2 men on it’s Engines which includes Squad 34 however they will run ambulance 32 with Engine 32 and ambulance 34 with Squad 34 which in effect gives them 4 men, But what happens if the ambulance is already out on an EMS run? On a working fire Highland Park does get automatic mutual aid which does include out of town Engines and Trucks but a 2 man Engines and a “sometimes” manned Truck is really gambling with lives and property.

One of the most affluent communities in the north shore and this is the pathetic fire protection they provide to their residents. What a shame.
