This from Dennis McGuire, Jr.
Here are a few shots of the 2 rigs that MP has now. The van is a utility vehicle, and the truck is a new Pierce which will replace the MackCF (X-FDNY) and Pennsville, N.J. As of now the Pierce is not in service until formal training is done.Dennis

AS for being someone WHO HAS FAMILY LIVING IN THIS TOWN , I APPLAUD THE COMMUNITY for seeing that the NEED to replace this “truck” company BEFORE it is Unrepairable. Or NEEDS $100,000 in upkeep for 1 year and then deciding oh we don’t need it , and stepping back 50-60 years of fire suppression capabilities.

Would this be an issue if it were a northern suburb?

Good point!

The best part is you have someone here that lives in another community saying its a “waste” of M.P. taxpayer money….M.P. is NOT home rule, therefore the taxpayers had to VOTE for a referendum to purchase this truck. That means the MAJORITY of people IN THAT VILLAGE agreed they wanted a new LADDER TRUCK (it did NOT say fire apparatus, it specifically said LADDER truck, not even quint, or multi-vocational vehicle)! Pretty much puts this guys comments to rest! What a joke!

“oh every town around them has a truck,” Some places cannot rely on Auto Aid Trucks. Just like Member said about the surrounding town’s truck companies not being manned. For a dept like MP, who has strong Call Backs, they can probably get their truck to the scene before any auto aid truck can, plus provide assistance to surrounding towns fires. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this MP Truck was bought on a tax referendum by the voters. I don’t see anywhere would this would be a waste of tax payers money because these politicians spend stupid $ on more stupid stuff.

I noticed the old truck (ex-FDNY) is also in the house. For sale or awaiting delivery to new owner? Thanks in advance.

From what I’m told, it’ll be a spare until the village decides to do something with it.

Consolidation. That is the answer to this picture. They run with GARDEN HOMES? Man, I didn’t know that. There’s another 3 blocks I forgot to consider.
Every little department has to have their own toys and cant seem to do what is best for their communities…pool you resources and have regional departments. Perfect example- Robbins, GHFD, MPFPD, Blue Island and Calumet Park merge. None of them have a pot to piss in but they all have these large, unstaffed fleets. CONSOLIDATE! You need a ladder to get onto the roof of the Bourbon Street strip mall or your handful of apartments? Throw a 35′ on a $365,000 pumper- problem solved.

Most people WANT consolidation…It’s the politicians that don’t want it, or do nothing to make it happen. It’s not about having toys, it’s about having a truck company to service your area. So then from your logic, the only areas that need a ladder truck is a metropolitan area with high rises?? Every residential fire you see where a ladder truck is used for ventilation or rescues is a waste right?? Any fire that needs an elevated waterway was a waste, right?? Every accident that needed more equipment then the engine carries wasn’t needed right?? What a joke. You’re whining just to whine. Their old truck was well utilized, and this one will be even more so. If consolidation happens in the future, it’ll be used even more to its potential, so stop complaining

Is that rumor that MP is getting absorbed by BI still floating around?
#14 by Member on August 21, 2015 - 2:01 PM
The only place that was ever said was this website lol. Now the combination of MP and GH has been talked about for years…but no one has ever really done anything about it. Now THAT would be a logical idea!

you are right crabby that grill-less dash CF looks pretty sweet

gotta love the anonymous posters with little or no understanding of mutual aid and needs of a specific community. i currently live in a small community that the 2 biggest building are a wal-mart and a 4 story hospital and the dept. had a haz-mat trailer a tower ladder a quint 4 engines companies and a heavy rescue…. while the dept less then 5 miles away has a haz-mat trailer command van 3 engines a rescue a tanker and a quint. the first dept. the first dept. i mentioned also has a vol. fire dept that has 2 stations inside its city limits with a tanker and 3 engines and a quint. area is well served despite the overlapping services, and all departments in the county are mutual aid to one another on a county wide dispatch. point is that you never know the reasoning that a dept. purchases the apparatus they do unless you are a member of said dept.

The only staffed truck company in the area is Evergreen park. Alsips truck is o.o.s. 90% of the time, and even if it is in service, you have to bank on them not having an ambo call at the time (most likely). Blue Islands tower is o.o.s. due to manpower half the time, and is their still truck on commercial/apartment addresses already. Every fire they have in town their truck is there first, except by accident this winter, when blue islands tower happened to be out doing drivers training. This department got a truck, squad, and engine all in one package for $850k. Before people make A-hole comments, they should probably do thier research, cuz M.P.F.D. did theirs!!

It isn’t a waste. The towns around them that have trucks aren’t necessarily going to be able to give them their truck all the time. Plus they can run mutual aid with this truck, and that’s a valuable resource for everyone around them. They run automatically on every run with Garden Homes, who doesn’t have their own tuck. And they have a couple strip malls and some apartment buildings within their own district. They only have one other suppression apparatus, and that’s an engine so it isn’t like they are duplicating vehicles or spending money where a different apparatus was sorely needed. They were replacing a truck company that is older than many of the readers of this site.

Another example of a gigantic waste of taxpayer money. This is a bedroom community with about 6 streets. They are bordered by fire departments with Truck Companies, most of which are staffed. Nice rig…for a big town that could justify it.

That’s a sharp looking ladder truck. I still don’t like the black ladders, though.

You are correct about the E SERIES and I should have made it clear that they discontinued the vans but the chassis cabs will continue for about 5-6 years. It’ll be interesting to see what they replace it with.
#22 by Crabby Milton on August 19, 2015 - 2:56 PM
That’s a nice shot of the DASH CF. They did a nice job with the colors and yes, it does have that classic look without the dummy grill.
R.I.P. FORD E SERIES van. Hard to believe they are no longer built after all of these decades. But the new TRANSIT should be fine. I see them all over the place.
#23 by Robert on August 19, 2015 - 4:32 PM
E-series commercial chassis is still being made so you will see those. Transit is pretty nice, friend of mine has three in his work van fleet. He says the transits are better than the sprinters.
