Board of Trustees Names Interim Fire Chief

With the announcement of Chief Tim Sashko’s acceptance of the executive director position for the Illinois Fire Chiefs, the Board of Trustees appointed Deputy Chief Timothy A. Leidig, MBA, EFO, CFO, MIFireE, as the interim fire chief, effective May 1, 2015.

Chief Leidig, joined the fire service in 1991 and worked his way through the ranks of the Elmhurst Fire Department, and the York Center Fire Protection District. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Management with a specialty in Strategic Planning from National Louis University.

Leidig holds many certifications nationally including the Executive Fire Officer certification from the National Fire Academy, Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing, and from the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Chief Officer designation and Training Program Manager. He has taught firefighter fire ground safety, May-Day for incident commanders, training standards and mandates. He was awarded the 2010 Illinois Instructor of the Year.
