At the bottom of the eagles there are 9’s and 10’s. They are small so you have to really look for them…
#2 by thefiremang on September 5, 2014 - 6:34 PM
If you look under the eagles talons you will see a 9 and a 10 for the engine company.

A comment on these 2 new engines also, seems like there should be another number on the Officers door and the drivers door under “Engine Co.” maybe they ran out of 9’s and 10’s……….

Bill, ORD does have 8 crash rigs here now, but they are housed as follows, Rescue 1 has 653, 657, 658, and commander 6510, 6510 is the arff commander for the south airfield. Rescue 2 houses 654, 656 and commander 655, 655 is the arff commander for the north airfield. Rescue 4 houses 659 and BC6. 656 was the only Snozzle, now, 656, and the 2 new arff rigs, 655 and 6510 are also Snozzles for a total of 3 Snozzles.

I’m assuming the CFD didn’t want to look like a bunch of Canadians with a Bronto and a freaking seat

Rumor from multiple sources both buffs and guys on the job is that the squad order was terminated and that there may ir may not be a lawsuit by rosenbauer for breach of contract

What is going on with CFD new squads? Have not heard a peep

The current Station 1 at O”Hare Field seems to have an unusual layout as it appears that offices and living quarter are in the center and on each end of the building there are two three bay garages for the apparatus so instead of having one large 6 bay apparatus garage it appears that there are 2 three bay stations that separated by an office complex.
Mike L is there any kind of logic to that arrangement? For example do they keep the ARFF rigs in one garage and the structure and special duty rigs in the other garage? How they arrange the rigs in Station 1. It is designed like 2 smaller stations instead of one large station with every piece of equipment in the same garage.

Thanks for the information David.
So it looks like O”Hare Field now has 8 full sized ARFF wagons at the airport. According to the companies listed that would mean the Station 1 would have 653,654,657 and 6510 in service at Station 1 not to mention Engine 12 that was put in service in January.
Mike L I can really see how it is a tight fit in to Station 1 considering that Tower Ladder 63 and Haz Mat 512 are also located there.
Mike L are they supposed to build a new addition to Station 1 or will they just be building them a new fire station altogether?
According to the runway realignment plans I had heard that they would be having to build a new Station 2 on the north west end of the field however I haven’t confirmed it.
I have seen a map of the plans for new runways at O Hare and it they plan to build a second runway just south of Station 2 they may have to relocate that Station.
There are also plans to build another single runway on the far south end of the field which be located south of the present Cargo area which would suggest the possibility of a 5th new Rescue Station being built.
Would you happen to know when the next new Station at “O:’Hare” will be going up and will it be a replacement station for one the Stations that are already there or will it be a totally new station due to the enlargement of the Airport?

Bill, as far as I know the 6-5-10 was organized this February as a new ARFF company at Rescue 1. They started with a spare crash rig and as it seems they recently got a new 8×8 crash truck. Here’s a photo of the older rig:

Is 6510 a new company ,because I had thought that 653,657 and 658 were located at Station 1 and 654,655 and 656 were located at Station 2 while 659 was located at Station 4. Is 6510 supposed to be 4th ARFF rig at Station 1?

@Danny: I discovered the 6-5-10 on the Oshkosh website just yesterday and posted it to the webmaster, so let’s see who’s gonna be 1st. Just kidding but I think the rigs will appear soon.

Brian, what city rigs are getting replaced? What, the 2 truck companies 24 & 47? Ambulances? Those were bought because they produce revenue for the City. Not the Fire Department, but the City. Big deal. Where are the replacements for the aging tower ladders? The Squads? The Snorkels? Where are the replacements for 17 and 18 year old (and older) pumpers? They buy shitloads of nonsense rigs to park on 39th Street for 10 runs a year(IF they’re lucky,) but they can’t replace frontline apparatus on a YEARLY basis. That $55 million the shithead Mayor is giving DePaul for an arena for a fourth rate basketball team could buy a LOT of apparatus.

I submitted the link from oshkosh announcing the delivery of the new crash rigs for 6-5-5 & 6-5-10 4 days ago to this blog any reason it didn’t come up yet?

Chuck what city rigs are you referring to. You realize these are replacing old rigs and the city rigs have an on going replacement program.
#16 by Chuck on August 31, 2014 - 12:06 PM
I know the Feds pay for the airport to have these rigs, but it’s a damned
shame to see some of the absolute slowest companies in the CFD getting new rigs before the running their asses off city companies do.

Sharp looking pair and ready to roll.

Bill- It’s a Tetris game at all 4 CFR houses now. Every rig has been fitted into each station with a shoe horn! Rescue 3 (3 bays) has Sqd 7, 2-7-8 & Amb 59 in front with the mini, 9-2-4 & Eng 9 behind them. It’s tight! Rescue 1 has almost zero room until they build the addition. Several support rigs (the MCI bus, MCI trailer & Rehab rig all had to be moved to Fleet (AMF Building; Lawrence & Mannheim) because of a lack of space). The new Engines and the new 4500’s are very sharp!

Thanks for printing the photos. These rigs will be O”Hare Fields third set of “Super Pumpers” (meaning extra large rigs with tandem rear axles) since the 1988 E-One’s were delivered. I understand that the Rescue Station 1 (southwest end cargo area) currently has limited space which is the reason why they put Engine 12 in that station with it’s smaller conventional size pumper. I can’t help but wonder it they were to relocate one or two of the larger rigs from Stations 1 to 2 if that would make any room for one of the two new E/One pumpers at Station 1.
The reason why I bring it up is that Engine 9 and 10’s “Super Pumpers” have extra long chassis and are practically long enough to be an ARFF rig themselves while Engine 12’s current rig would just seem better suited to be at Station 3 ( Terminal Area) as it is right off the expressway approaches to the airport and would seem better suited to maneuver though the heavy traffic around the terminal area especially on the many ambulance assist runs into the terminals , as Engine 12 is lighter weight and more maneuverable in tight spaces.
