This from Josh Boyajian:
A working fire this afternoon in the 1600 blk of Karlov. E95 arrived and had smoke showing from the 3rd floor. Engines 95 and 109 had lines lead out, Truck 26 had the main to the roof, and Truck 48 threw their banger ladder on the (B) sector. Fire was quickly knocked. Here are some of my shots.

The tormentors are there….look along the top rail closest to the camera. That ladder weighs in the neighborhood of 300 pounds, if I remember the numbers correctly

in the tri-data report they recommended that all truck companies run with 5 ffs. they mentioned the need to raise large ladders at the many building complexes where it is difficult to get an aerial in. it is good to see that an adequate amount of ladders are being raised, primarily for the safety of the members working. it seemed that for a long time few ladders were being raised. I believe that with the advent of the scba and primary search orders of the early 1980s a trend of getting inside as fast as possible developed with the neglect of raising ladders as a matter of course upon arrival. before scba getting ladders up and venting windows was a standard operation.
the second truck was / is tasked with getting a ladder to the rear of the building upon arrival to remove occupants and put to the roof for an alternate escape for the roof team.
back in the day when there was only one truck on a still, and no squad at the scene, the second engine company often would raise ladders when required to meet an urgent situation, and then lead out.
and yes the old wooden bangor ladders were a bear to raise! the current ones are no piece of cake either. many guys are spending their retirement years nursing the bad backs and torn shoulders that raising ladders under less than ideal conditions, or less than 4/5 ffs, left them with.

I can’t see the Tormentors on this one. And YES; The 65′ Wood Bangor was a ball buster but we could always raise it with 4 “GUYS” and never used the tormentors then. Now it’s different. VERY different !!!!!!

Yes it is! That is why a four man truck company is good but, a five man would be better. Those ladders are a beast to raise! In the suburbs, you would need two companies just to raise one of those at an incident.

Is that a “bangor” on the 4th photo?! I know just the wooden form, but this looks similar.
