This from Tim Olk who is back at the scene of Tuesday’s 5-11 + 2 Specials … now a Still & Box Alarm.
The CFD has resurrected 6-7-1, the large turret wagon which has been off of the roster … and assigned it to the fire

I could imagine some cabover chassis like the GMC T7500 or something similar.

A workstar could be nice for the new chassis if the city does rechassis.

Good Question Mike, and I guess I would also like to know where it is now? Is it assigned to a house now or did it go back to where they store old (semi-retired) equipment?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think they should simply find a new chassis for the rig and get it back in service. It’s obvious that fires like this will require something bigger than engine deck guns.

For years and years, 671 was kept at E23’s quarters, a perfect location that got a tremendous amount of action through the years. For some reason, the city thought it was wise to take 671 out of service. Ironically, within the last month, there was two extra alarm fires (the 4-11 on 24th and western, and now this 5-11) where 671 could have been called as a result of one of the first extra alarms.

As far as I know the rig was delivered in 1975 and originally intended for use as a tractor for a tiller truck but the CFD decided to use it as a deluge rig instead. What you see is the original 1975 set up made at the same year by the CFD shops.

6-7-1 was built on a new mack MB chassis in the early 70s. a lot of cfd rigs were on MB chassis, engines, tiller tractors, shop trucks, and the flying squads.
it was kept in various houses downtown, e-42 & e-1.
i was detailed to it one day around 1981, greased the swivels to pass the day, probably the last time they were!

Does anyone know where 6-7-1 was kept all these years? I assuume the deluge gun was welded onto an old (crica 1970) tiller truck cab. Does anyone know which one?
Are there other retired units like this kept in deep storage?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
