The East Joliet Fire District will be forced to close station 2 and make staffing cuts according to an article in the Herald-News:
Firefighters in the East Joliet Fire Protection District have been told to expect staffing changes and that Station 2 on Zarley Boulevard will be closed effective Saturday, the president of the East Joliet Firefighters Association said.

I mean they had to contribute contributions to IMRF for the part timers. They had not been doing so. A lot of firefighters do not realize that if they work over a certain amount of hours (600 or 1,000) depending on what the village or district adapts, they are eligible for an IMRF pension. Many communities have not been contributing for their firefighters.

:news: effective Jan 1, 2013, station 2 will no longer be a 24/7 staffed station. it will become a p.o.c. station. Squad 536 and reserve engine 532 will be moved to station 2, while ambulance 524 and Truck 529 will be moved to station 3. although there will be times that station 2 will be staffed for the duration of a shift depending on if any p.o.c.’s are available to ride that day and there is a paramedic on shift to move 524 back down to station 2 to ensure better response times in the south end of the district. but this will probably not happen very often, seeing as though 11 salary jobs have been cut. these 11 firefighters/paramedics have been forced to try and find other jobs in other places, as well as many part timers and p.o.c.’s because Part-time, and p.o.c. hours have also dropped drastically. as for staffing, before the cuts were made (given that nobody was off on a sick/vacation/or kelly day) there were 3-4 firefighters at station 2, and 4-5 firefighters at station 3 (as much as 9 total between both stations). As it stands now, there will only be 4-5 firefighters at station 3 only, protecting the entire district. east joliets’ district goes as far north as rosalind ave, as far south as sweitzer rd, as far east as cherry hill rd, and west as far as patterson rd.–

What is the current staffing with the two stations?

From what I have heard through the vine is that they have found enough money to keep Station 2 open until Dec 31st. After that it will be shut down and the truck and ambulance will be moved to station 3. That is only from word of mouth though.

In the first question posted, Kevin Griffin asks if they were going to move apparatus. I drove past station 3 tonight and the truck was on the apron, and an ambulance was on the side of the building.
