This from Dennis McGuire, Jr.:
Shortly after midnight (Monday morning), a CPD patrol car radioed in a fire at 5757 S. Hermitage stating that fire was blowing out of the front window. Only being 4 blocks from the address Josh & I took in the fire. We arrived just ahead of Engine 116 to find fire blowing out of the 1st floor front room and extending up the front of the 2-1/2, 25×50 frame. Engine 116 lead out a line to the front and hit the main body of fire from the outside while Tower 39 went to the roof for ventilation. Engine 123 backed down to Tower 39 and was setup to use their deck gun, but that order was canceled.Great job by companies in knocking down this fire fast. This area of Hermitage has homes butted up to each other on the sides and this could have gotten out of control quickly.Dennis

This from Larry Shapiro:
The Winnetka Fire Department was called to a house with smoke coming from the attic at 924 Pine Tree Lane just after 9PM on Wednesday evening. Prior to the fire department’s arrival, police units confirmed smoke from a house at the corrected address of 910 Pine Tree Lane.
The first engine turned down the street and was completely immersed in smoke with near zero visibility. They pulled past the house and the truck was able to back up to the driveway. Heavy smoke at the scene was the updated size up at a split level house that was being renovated. Companies attempted an interior attack as fire burned through the roof at the rear of the house. Northfield Truck 29 reported seeing heavy fire as they rounded the corner two blocks away.
The interior attack was abandoned shortly thereafter as the fire spread throughout the attic space. Fortunately the interior crews spotted a hole in the first floor before it could cause injury to any firefighters.
The alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm as an elevated master stream was put into operation from Winnetka Truck 28 in addition to multiple hand lines. As the fire progressed, Northfield Truck 29 also put an elevated master stream into service. The house backed up to Tower Road, and trucks from both Glenview and Skokie setup there but did not deploy master streams. Both ladders were put over the scene to provide illumination for firefighters.
Companies at the scene included engines from Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Northbrook, Highwood, and Evanston. Trucks on-scene were from Winnetka, Northfield, Glenview, and Skokie. Other units included a squad from Morton Grove, an ambulance from Wilmette, the MESS Canteen, and multiple chief officers.
A video from the scene will be posted soon.

West Chicago companies with automatic aid from other West Suburban Fire Alliance units responded to a reported house fire this afternoon at 2485 Alamance Drive. Du-Comm received multiple calls, some reporting that all residents were not out of the house. Companies reported a large header while en route and the alarm was upgraded to a Special Alarm (working fire). Upon arrival, all residents were found to have exited the two-story home which was fully involved.
Firefighters went to work and were soon ordered out of the house as a flashover occurred. Three people were transported to area hospitals including one firefighter with minor burns from the flashover and two civilians. The attack went defensive with two hand lines and the West Chicago tower ladder.
Elliott Tulipano submitted some images from early in the event and we will have other images to post as well.

Stephen Wilcox submitted yet another recent house fire from Dupage County, this time in Lisle. Stephen submitted several images and commentary;
This box alarm was in an unhydranted area in the north end of Lisle’s district. Typically, the weather was hot and humid. No one home at the time of the fire (1115 hours on 7/1/11) may have contributed to a response delay. Structure was one story “L” shaped, about 40″X80″ ordinary, located on Red Oak. Command also called a box for tankers.
