Chicago working fire 3-22-14

This from Eric Haak:

At approximately 1045 hrs on Saturday, companies in Chicago’s 23rd Battalion were dispatched to the report of a fire in an apartment building on the 7900 Block of South St. Lawrence in the Southside Chatham neighborhood.  Engine 122 was first in and reported light smoke from the 3rd floor.  The apartment’s resident was standing outside and reported that the fire was in a back bedroom.  Smoke was very minimal at the front of the building but once in the rear, it was obvious there was a decent working fire.  Companies got water on the fire pretty quick and the incident was brought under control within minutes.

Norwood Park Box Alarm, 1-28-14 (more)

This from Steve Redick:

Here are the photos to match the previous video. From what I was told the fire involved the chimney and wood burning stove in the basement, and the fire ran up to the attic. Make no mistake it was bitter cold, several degrees below zero. It was tough to do anything. Finally got some shots of the new rig working. This was a done deal in very short order.

3-Alarm fire in Lake Forest, January 28, 2014

Lake Forest firefighters responded to a reported basement fire Tuesday afternoon at 180 W. Laurel Avenue. The first arriving unit reported nothing showing from the outside, but found smoke upon entering the large house. Within roughly 9 minutes, the alarm was upgraded to a working still alarm, a MABAS Box Alarm, and then a 2nd Alarm as smoke began escaping from the eaves.

There was a hydrant at the end of the long, curvy driveway. The first-due Lake Forest engine and the Knollwood quint both made the driveway … with some difficulty. Fire was located in the void space beneath the first floor and then in some walls on the second floor.

The alarm was upgraded to a 3rd Alarm for additional companies to standby in the event that the fire got away from the companies working inside. The fire was contained before long without doing extensive damage to the structure of the house. Temperatures were hovering just above 0 with a negative windchill.

Working house fire in Highland Park 1-15-14

The Highland Park Fire Department received a report of a house fire at 2776 Oak Street, located at the far northern edge of town along the Ft Sheridan property and the lakefront. A Commonwealth Edison worker reported smoke coming from the house. The alarm dispatch went right to the Code 4 for the working fire, bringing all Highland Park units in addition to Highwood, Countryside, and Deerfield.

Upon arrival, the size up mentioned smoke showing from two sides. Firefighters found a well involved kitchen fire that was contained quickly. The occupants were not home at the time. Firefighters brought a cat out of the house and administered oxygen. Reportedly another cat perished.

Tim Olk submitted these images from the scene.
