Wheeling and Prospect Heights firefighters were sent to 375 Plum Creek Drive on Tuesday morning after a Wheeling Police Department Community Service Officer spotted heavy smoke from a fourth floor apartment. On arrival, flames and smoke were pushing out of a fourth floor balcony in the center of the building with extension to the fifth floor balcony. Wheeling Truck 24 hit it with an elevated master stream and Prospect Heights Engine 39 stretched a 2 1/2″ line to hit it from the base of the building before crews got into place for an interior attack.
This is the second fire this year in the same building. In March, they had fire in an end unit on the same floor.

I took in a working fire in Markham last week at 16003 S Central Park Ave. First companies arrived on scene with heavy fire showing from the front and back of this place. Shortly thereafter, they went defensive and decided to let it go. I arrived about 30 minutes into the fire and this is what I found. Markham Engine 33 had a few lines off and was feeding Flossmoor’s tower ladder. Full gallery is HERE.

At around 130am on December 11th, Cicero Fire companies were toned out for a structure fire @ 2704 S 60th Ct. Engine 2 arrived onscene with a fully involved, 2.5 sty wood frame, about 25×75′ and pulled a Box. Due to the amount of fire, exposure problems, and structural integrity, all companies went defensive. Truck Co. 2 put their aerial master stream to work on side A. Engine 1 & North Riverside Engine 807 lead out multiple big lines as well. I arrived about 10 minutes into the fire. The full gallery is HERE.

This from Daniel Hynd:
On December 12th, 2023 at around 2pm, the Roselle Fire Dept responded to a house fire on Long Ave in unincorporated Schaumburg.
Crews were met with a fully involved, single family home on arrival. Due to limited water supply, tenders from Roselle, West Chicago, Bloomingdale, and Pingree Grove supplied Engine 64 until a hydrant was secured.

The following images are from a still & box alarm fire in Chicago on Sunday, 12/3/23. The fire was in the old Swift mansion at 45th and Michigan. It started in a rear stairwell and was possibly of incendiary origins. The investigation has been turned over to CPD bomb and arson.

This from Eric Haak:
Just before sunrise on Thanksgiving morning, a fire broke out in the former Wing Hoe restaurant located in Chicago’s 9th Battalion. The structure was built as a private residence in 1913 and had been the Wing Hoe since 1971. It was currently vacant and scheduled for demolition. Companies had been drilling in the structure as recently as the day before. The building was a 2.5-story brick with a basement where the fire appeared to originate. Engine Company 83 made a valiant effort to get a line on it before it advanced, but with holes in the floor and being heavily charged with smoke, the decision was made to transition to a defensive attack.
I arrived as the box was being pulled and found very heavy smoke emanating from the entire structure. Engine Company 59 made entry from a safe POV through a rear door that accessed the basement and made some headway there but the fire extension was already advanced. A Snorkel, tower ladder, two RAMs, and several hand lines were used to bring this job under control.

Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:
Chicago firefighters battled a massive extra-alarm fire in a Logan Square warehouse Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out just before midnight in the 2700-block of North Pulaski Road, near the back of the warehouse.
The response was raised to a 3-11 alarm with a hazardous materials response.
