Firefighters from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, and Wheeling along with police officers from Buffalo Grove and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to a reported car fire Wednesday night near Dundee Road and Buffalo Grove Road. The police arrived first and reported a vehicle fully engulfed by fire on Buffalo Grove Road at East Park Place, which is almost a quarter of a mile south of Dundee Road in a small area of unincorporated Cook County that is within the Prospect Heights Fire District (PHFD).
The area which is without hydrants, is served through an agreement between the PHFD and Buffalo Grove. The initial response included Prospect Heights Battalion 9 with Ambulance 9 along with Buffalo Grove Tower 25. While en route, Battalion 9 requested a second engine after the report of a well-involved car fire and Wheeling Engine 24 was added to the response. A Buffalo Grove ambulance was sent at the request of Tower 25 upon their arrival and the discovery of a two-vehicle crash. Prospect Heights Tanker 9 was added to the response in lieu of using a several block supply line as it became evident that the tank water from both the tower and the engine was not going to be sufficient.
The car’s occupant self extricated and it appeared that the driver of the pickup truck may have fled the scene before the police arrived. One person was transported to the hospital and several others signed releases at the scene.

From the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District on Facebook:
On Monday, October 2, 2023, at 5:10AM, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was dispatched to the 200 block of S. Jefferson Street in Woodstock for the reported residential structure fire.A vigilant Woodstock police officer passing through the area first reported the fire and began alerting the occupants of the home. Initial reports indicated a large fire with someone trapped on the third floor. Firefighters arrived on scene within 4 minutes and confirmed a working fire on the rear of the home with all occupants evacuated. Several hose lines were deployed, and an interior attack was quickly initiated.A request through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was made to the Box Level for additional resources to the scene and change of quarters companies. In total, seven neighboring fire districts responded to the aid request. The fire was considered under control within 45 minutes, but overhaul and investigations continued until 10:00AM. Two pet turtles were rescued by firefighters. An adult male occupant was critically injured during the fire. Due to the extent of his injuries, a medical helicopter was requested but was unavailable to fly due to weather conditions. The male patient was subsequently transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage throughout and is considered uninhabitable until repairs can be made. All 9 occupants of the home are receiving housing and various aid assistance from the American Red Cross. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital.Preliminary investigations indicate the fire began on the rear deck of the home and quickly extended to the attic. There was no evidence of working smoke detectors in the home. Damage estimates are currently undetermined. The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature but remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

The Countryside FPD was responded to a reported house fire at 1111 Dearborn Lane in Vernon Hills this afternoon. Companies arrived to find heavy fire in the two-story, single-family home. The requested a MABAS Box Alarm for change-of-quarters companies and then elevated the alarm to fill out the full box alarm assignment to the scene.
The fire was contained quickly and the Box Alarm was struck out prior to the arrival of all responding units.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD (LRFPD) firefighters were sent to a reported house fire this morning at 1975 Rose Terrace in Riverwoods. After receiving a call from the homeowner reporting flames in the garage, the alarm was upgraded to a Working Fire. The first engine arrived at the large, two-story home and reported a fully-involved attached garage before initiating a transitional attack with a 2 1/2″ line.
Departments assisting the LRFPD at the scene were the Long Grove FPD, the Deerfield-Bannockburn FPD, the Countryside FPD, and Wheeling. After being on scene for roughly 30 minutes, the alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm as companies found additional pockets of fire extension in the house. On the Box Alarm, companies came from Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Gurnee, and Libertyville.
The fire was contained and several mutual aid companies were returned from the staging area in short order.
Here are some images from Larry Shapiro who arrived after the Box Alarm.
