5-Alarm fire in Waukegan, 2-2-22

Excerpts from Fox32Chicago.com:

More than 100 firefighters worked overnight Wednesday to extinguish a fire at Bay Marine, a boat storage facility in Waukegan. About 8 p.m., firefighters responded to an automatic alarm that and found flames inside a boat storage facility, 3 E. Madison St.

The fire was upgraded a fourth alarm due the freezing temperatures and difficulties navigating through the facility, which stored about 70 large boats.

The fire was extinguished by 2:30 a.m. No injuries were reported and the cause wasn’t immediately known.

Waukegan deployed Engine 65,  a 2021 Rosenbauer Panther 6×6 ARFF from the Waukegan Airport to apply foam into the building.

A man was airlifted to a hospital with severe traumatic facial injuries late Saturday night following an accident involving a firework in Waukegan.

The incident was reported at approximately 10 p.m. at a residence in the 400 block of North County Street. The victim, a man in his 20s, sustained injuries from a mortar-type firework and was initially transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. He was later air lifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Working fire in Waukegan, 4-14-21

Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:

Two dogs were killed and seven people left homeless after flames destroyed a two unit house in the 500 block of McAlister Avenue in Waukegan overnight Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived to find fast-spreading flames that took hours to put out. Two firefighters received minor injuries.

The people who were living in the home are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

House fire in Waukegan, 2-19-21

Waukegan firefighters responded to 545 W Water Street for a house fire Friday evening and had heavy fire on arrival. The alarm was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm for additional resources.

Fatal fire in Waukegan, 1-18-21

Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com:

The Waukegan Fire Department was called at 5:15 p.m. on Monday for a fire at 542 Washington St. in Waukegan, near the downtown area.

Firefighters found an apartment on fire on the 10th floor of a 12-story building. At the scene, they found the body of an elderly man, who was pronounced dead on the scene. The fire was contained to one unit and no one else was displaced.

The fire department is investigating with the help of the Waukegan Police Department, the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office, and the Lake County Coroner’s office.
