Firefighters were called to the 1400 block of Spring Brook Court on Monday evening at an apartment complex in Round Lake Beach for a fire that started in a garage and spread to about 12 other garage units nearby, according to Chief Greg Formica of the Round Lake Fire Protection District.
One of the detached garages was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. They upgraded the fire to a box alarm to bring in additional firefighters from nearby departments and had the fire under control within about 20 minutes.
One firefighter who was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation was in good condition, talking, and just wanted to get checked out. He was released late Monday.
