This from Art Zern:
At 0353 on 9/17/20, Sycamore fire was dispatched to 126 E. State Street for a working structure fire that was “fully involved” fire per the PD. E-1 and Chief 3 arrived to a two-story ordinary (75 X 125) with heavy smoke and fire in the first floor laundromat on the A/B corner. C-3 pulled a Box and set staging at State (Rt 64) and Main (Rt 23). The building contained the State Street Laundromat and World Famous Pizza on the first floor and Spider Tatooz and office space on the 2.
E-1 (with 4) pulled a 2 ½” to the B-side and a Mercury Monitor to the A-side and hit it with 800-900 GPM and secured their own water supply. E-2 (with 4) backed in from Main St. hugging the north curb to keep the street open for Dekalb T-1. T-1 handled roof opening and the second truck (Hampshire) was set-up on the B-side and handled vent duties on that side. After the bulk of the fire was knocked, E-1 and E-2 stretched a line to the second floor for searches and to check for extension with an assist by Elburn and Maple Park engines. Genoa Kingston’s engine backed down to T-1 and lead-out a supply line just in case.
Two engines and a truck were held in staging. “Big Water” on arrival and solid efforts from all companies put an excellent stop on this well-involved commercial fire.
There was heavy fire, smoke, and water damage in the laundromat, smoke and water in World Famous Pizza, and smoke on the second to Spiders Tatoozs and the other office space. Spider is a great friend of the Sycamore FD, a city alderman and a retired Cortland captain. Spider has been fighting hard against cancer and this is the last thing he needed, and if you know him, send your love and support his way!
Thanks to all of our Mutual Aid partners.
