The opening of the Chicago Fire Department’s new $30 million firehouse in the West Pullman is being delayed because of two COVID outbreaks at the construction site. It will be the second largest fire station in the city, sometime after the new year.
Two Chicago firefighters in the CFD have died and 425 have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began. About 30 firefighters are now quarantined.

The new Engine Company 115 fire station will be the second-largest fire station in the city, with space for a Chicago Fire Department District Office, an Office of Emergency Management and Communications radio communication tower and three ambulances. The 27,000-square-foot, single-story fire station will be a home-away-from-home for approximately 20 firefighters/EMTs and eight officers: housing sleeping quarters, locker rooms, a workout facility, full-service kitchen with pantry and dining area, day room, laundry, and wellness room. A training space, conference room, and open office space will be shared by the EC 115 team and the CFD District Office. The facility will also feature a state-of-the-art emergency communications hub, watchtower, open office spaces, and a 4-bay apparatus room with a hose drying tower.
The new facility will replace the existing Engine Company 115 firehouse located at 11940 South Peoria Street.

The city is preparing to build its second largest fire station for $30 million in the West Pullman Neighborhood. The structure at 11900 S. Morgan Dr. for Engine Company 115 has been designed by DLR Groupand will be developed by the Public Building Commission.
The new building will be the second-largest fire station in the city, housing a Chicago Fire Department (CFD) District Office, an Office of Emergency Management, and Communications (OEMC) radio communication tower, and three ambulances.
The new 25,000 sq. ft. single-story fire station will include an indoor physical training space, full-size living quarters, and a workout facility for approximately 20 firefighters/EMTs/paramedics and eight officers. The facility will also feature a state-of-the-art emergency communication hub, watchtower, open office spaces, and a 4-bay apparatus room with a hose drying tower.
The city plans to build the fire station on vacant land at 119th Street and Morgan Street, replacing the existing Engine Company 115 located at 11940 South Peoria St. The anticipated opening is summer 2020.
