First respondersFirefighters from numerous municipalities responded to a house fire Monday morning in the 900 block of Wedgewood Drive in Crystal Lake. The fire, which was reported by neighbors about 9:15 a.m. and filled the upper floor and attic of a two-story home, quickly was contained.The fire caused about $80,000. Its cause is not yet known, but it is being treated as a suspicious incident, Crystal Lake Fire Chief Chris Olsen said.
“The residence was not sprinklered; however, smoke detectors were activated. The first arriving crew removed dogs from the residence while engine companies deployed two hose lines into the building for suppression and searched for occupants,” according to a statement from Battalion Chief Chris Koppera.
Units from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Harvard, Huntley, Lake Zurich, Marengo, McHenry Township, Nunda Rural, Spring Grove, Wauconda, and Wonder Lake assisted at the scene.
