This from Steve Redick:
Took this job in on Friday…poor weather conditions..heavy overcast and snow with slippery road conditions. Not that much accumulation but occurred during the height of the snow squall. Apparently started as a car fire in the muffler shop. Very early collapse and storage of flammable gases created some severe hazards. I believe this was a bar joist type of truss construction. The collapse area seemed to be indicative of the bar joists distorting from the fire conditions. 3 tower ladders were set up. A class B foam operation with eductor appeared to be in use as well. The box alarm companies seemed to be primarily for relief purposes as the working fire response brings a large response. A nice assortment of apparatus could be seen here including both of Des Plaines new Pierce engines. All the images and video can be seen here:
Happy New Year

Des Plaines firefighters were called to 1108 E. Oakton this afternoon (12/29/17) for a fire in the Car-X Muffler shop, half a mile from Des Plaines Station 62. Upon arrival Engine 62 reported a fire and initiated an interior attack. The size up reported fire visible from two sides and through the roof very shortly thereafter.
