Hinsdale Fire Department Promotes Two New Officers
The Hinsdale Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of two new officers: Lieutenant Jon Carlson to the rank of Captain and Firefighter/Paramedic Andy Ziemer to the rank of Lieutenant. Both officers were sworn into their new roles during the November 1 village board meeting.
Captain Jon Carlson joined the Hinsdale Fire Department in 1998 as a firefighter/paramedic. In 2008, he was promoted to lieutenant. He coordinates the fire department’s vehicle maintenance program, is involved in the fire prevention bureau, and is the department’s paramedic and EMS program coordinator. He has Fire Officer I and II certifications, served on the MABAS Division 10 Technical Rescue Team and is trained as a rapid intervention officer. In 2011, Carlson and his crew were recognized by the Good Samaritan Hospital with a Hartmann Award for successfully resuscitating a two month old. In 2015, Captain Carlson was a co- recipient the Employee of the Year award, which is given by members of the village administration for exemplary employee performance. Captain Carlson has a bachelor’s degree with a major in social work from Winona University.
Lieutenant Andy Ziemer joined the Hinsdale Fire Department in 2002 as a firefighter/paramedic. Over the past 14 years, Ziemer has earned several fire service certifications in- cluding Fire Officer I and II, Fire Service Inspector I and II, is involved in the fire prevention bureau, and he plays a critical role in running the department’s monthly training and interdivisional drills. He was a member of the MABAS Division 10 Technical Rescue Team for 10 years. In 2008, he received a unit citation for saving the life of a Hinsdale resident who was trapped in his basement during a flood. Lieutenant Ziemer earned an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science and obtained a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting from MacMurray College.
