To answer your question, I honestly don’t have an answer but the new electric LAFD Rosenbauer was built in Austria. Not sure if the tank that ruptured was just a fluke, operator error, or poor quality.

Just out of curiosity is the quality the same as it is in Europe? Or are they so different you can’t compare what is made here, as opposed to Europe? I know they are pretty big in the European market, and are a very old company.

The best thing Spartan did was stop using Cincinnati truck cabs. They were total garbage! Marion is far superior!
Rosenbauer isn’t necessarily bad, but wouldn’t be at the top of my list if I had to choose. I can think of a few other builders that make a better product. Ultimately, in the end, who is going to provide the service you need. As we all know, after the sale support is extremely important and often lacking from some builders. This is why I’m a big proponent for E-One in the Chicago area. Fire Service Inc. is solid! Good people, good service! MacQueen on the other hand isn’t so good…

Yes Mike C you are correct. I’m very familiar with the Spartan/Rosenbauer relationship. I was assigned to a Spartan that had a cab built by Marion. It was typical of Spartan cabs built by other sub contractors (like Truck Cabs of Cincinnati). Not a bad cab but had it’s problems, specifically the Gladiator cabs. Every nut and bolt would work it’s way lose, problems with door handles, the center post between the windshields would always crack. The windows would come off their tracks. Oh yea and the windshield wiper arms were problematic.

Tim – The earlier Rosenbauers were in fact Spartan cabs with the Rosenbauer name on it. Since the Commander and Warrior cabs have been introduced, these cabs are made by Marion. Marion also used to build the Spartan cabs however they’re now built in Michigan by Spartan. I don’t think the Rosenbauer cabs necessarily have issues but I will admit, I don’t have a lot of confidence in a lot of Rosenbauers staffing.

Mike C you’re correct. Many of the Spartan guys went to Rosenbauer early on. The early Rosenbuaer cabs were actually built by Spartan. I had guys on this blog tell me there was absolutely ZERO connection between Rosenbauer and Spartan. Imagine that, guys with bad info on this blog LOL.

Well, go a bit south to Champaign. They got five engines a few years back. ABSOLUTE junk. They are already replacing them and I don’t think there but 6-7 years old. To Rosenbauer’s credit, a lot can change in the timeframe. Maybe what their producing now is a solid rig.

They’re not too bad. Glen Ellyn had some minor issues with their tower. Nothing major. Rosenbauer has some former Spartan engineers so they’re halfway decent rigs.
Better quality than Pierce.
Did you see the new LAFD Rosenbauer electric engine already had a major failure with the water tank? Only took a few days.

Now that there a number of Rosenbauer in service around the area does anyone know how they are holding up and overall are the departments and firefighters happy with the quality and operation of these units………
