Their numbering is the old District 2 numbering system. First 2 numbers indicate the department. Last number indicates vehicle type. Usually in alphabetical order but not always. Some depts. were not in the 2nd district but followed that numbering, like Chicago Ridge and North Palos.
Alsip 2000 series
Blue Island 2100
Calumet Park 2200
Crestwood 2300
Dixmoor 2400 now disbanded
Garden Homes 2500
Merionette Park 2600
Midlothian 2700
Posen 2800
Robbins 2900
Orland 6000
Palos 6300
Palos Heights 6400
Chicago Ridge 6500
North Palos 800 Was 6600 many years ago
Cars, chiefs, officers would end in 1. Could be 01, 11, 21, 31, etc.
Ambos end in 2. ALS 02, 12, 22, etc up to 42. BLS 52 on up, but not always. Orland has all ALS and ambo numbers up to 92.
Engines end in 3, trucks end in 4, squads 5, tenders 6, service vehicles like pick ups or brush trucks could end in a 7 or 8. Box card numbers end in 9.
Wasn’t a bad system but had nothing to do with fire station numbering.

This is actually Chicago Ridge Headquarters. Their Station 1 is at 107th & Lombard which houses a staffed ambulance, 6502, and their Mack C95 parade rig, Engine 6503.
Mike, 6502 has a similar bumper/grill guard on it!

With a front end like that on 6512 it looks like it could double as a combat vehicle!!!!!!
