Enough already!!
This is supposed to be a public forum to discuss the fire service & related items. Act like adults here or don’t come to this site anymore. It is getting ridiculous! Thank you for your time.

The current tower is a quint. It’s a 2015 Pierce Velocity 2000/300 100’ tower. You have seen the 2001 Pierce dash 0/0 100’ tower that is their current reserve running front line.

Who is bashing Pierce? I’m not seeing anything on this post.
I think this might be the first time I actually agree with “harry”.

Or you have these blind people that continue to buy rusted frame rails and all because that’s all they know is a name. They have no clue of what they are buying!

Well when it comes to Pierce there’s plenty to bash. Look at central il. 30 to 40 depts involved in a lawsuit bc their pierce rigs rusted away from underneath them. Then pierce didnt stand behind their warranty. Your gonna have pierce bashers. Pierce has left a bad taste in a LOT of people’s mouths. You cant just say ok, we fixed it, and expect everyone to be all happy go lucky. Then keep buying rigs that in my mind are very overpriced. Pierce has to prove themselves again to several depts.

I think this may be the future of ladders or tower ladders because it is more versitale

It was only a matter of time before the Pierce bashers showed up……

If you guys actually take the time to look at the departments apparatus
The current tower 7 is a quint! The reserve is the 2001 with no pump!
This tower will become quint 8!! I love all of the arm chair qb’s on this blog!

I have never been fond of a single axle aerial for a few different reasons.
1. That’s A LOT of weight on a rear axle! I know Pierce has made substantial reductions in weight with the Ascendant but has anyone ever looked at the quality of the components on an Ascendant? Everything is so cheap and flimsy!
2. A single axle limits tool storage.
3. There is a very limited amount of hose on board.
Truthfully, if you’ve ever looked at an Ascendant and expected long term integrity, you’ll be quite disappointed. This kind of truck would never survive in a high volume call city. Great concept but that’s about it.

Sure, without a pump….It just seems like if you’re going to go from 3 engines and a quint to 2 engines and 2 truck, why not make one of them an actual vehicle that can have tools and equipment. Quints “do it all” but generally do nothing well. . They will have 3 rigs able to pump water (4 if the squad goes to fires). Seems like a cost cutting/manning measure…..from the town that just built two new stations and sponsored a bowl game

I think they were smart getting this as oppose to running a tower frontline

Chief Mikel confirmed on the post that there is going to be a Quint 8 at the new station when it combines Stations 8 and 9, so presumably, the Velocity Quint is moving to Station 8, and this is going to Station 7 when the transition takes place.

There is a very recent post on here, with comments from one of Elk Grove’s chiefs, about where vehicles are going once the new stations are opened.

Is it possible, that Elk Grove Fire Department is planning on moving the current tower which is a Pierce Velocity Quint to the new station 8 when it is opened and run it as Quint 8. This will take it’s place at station 7.

So what is happeneing to the current tower?? Its only a few years old!!
#16 by Mike on February 16, 2019 - 7:19 PM
Elk Grove had a tower ladder without a pump or tank and due to changes in staffing and taking engine 7 out of service they wound up buying another tower ladder with a pump and a tank, and a mini pumper to chase the ambulance so they didn’t run the wheels off the tower.

Define ” actual” truck.. one without a pump? It’s not practical given the manpower used in the suburbs.
#18 by Clark on February 16, 2019 - 6:23 PM
Won’t one of these towns get an actual truck for once!
